As far as time tables go nothing has really changed. The US had all intentions of staying in Iraq through 2007. The draw down of troops was always based on ground conditions, and the need to back them up during their military rebuilding process.
One cannot build a military force up from the ground up, with totally new officer corps., NCO, boot training, supply depots, HQ at army level, divisional level, and battalion level, along with a adequate airforce and navy in two years.
These things take time. They are really just starting to get their acts together. Only a few months back where we hearing about the 160 some border patrol checkpoint facilities finally coming on line.
But what continues to piss me off is how Maliki has pampered Sadr for his continued political support.
Off course now that is starting to change. Sadr made a big mistake by publically announcing he no longer will support Maliki. As well as his public disclousers that he is not in full control of his malitia. So as his public image decreases, it could lead to his demise.
