Hence hgis support for the draft. If even our volunteers are there voluntary, why shouldn't everyone be?
I want to make it abundantly clear: if there's anyone who believes that these youngsters want to fight, as the Pentagon and some generals have said, you can just forget about it. No young, bright individual wants to fight just because of a bonus and just because of educational benefits. And most all of them come from communitiies of very, very high unemployment. If a young fella has an option of having a decent career or joining the army to fight in Iraq, you can bet your life that he would not be in Iraq.

"thought Charlie was a Marine."
Everything I searched through says Army.
Hear that, son? You're a college graduate, Stryker Platoon Leader......serving in Iraq..........because you were too dumb to make it elsewhere; so says Rangel.
.......and to think that I was less than five feet away from that son of a bitch on a recent business trip.........
"quit school at 16"
You may be right..I suspect you are. He could have joined without a degree in those days. And, his service could have gotten him into college. The wikipedia entry could be wrong.
Additional info - Charlie says on his web site he was in Army.
"Congressman Rangel served in the U.S. Army from 1948-52, during which time he fought in Korea and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star."

Time for another sign directed at Rangel.
Yeah, I'm glad he's trying to "help" by talking up the draft. As if that'll improve the quality of people in the military. We may all be a bunch of idiots to Kerry and Rangel, but at least we're a bunch of MOTIVATED idiots. The draft would do horrendous damage to us all.
Rangel and Kerry, self-hating veterans, eh?
Rangel and Kerry have no sense nor understanding of patriotism.

Call on him to regain his soul.... He was not always what he has become...

Guess the Marines are happy I'm wrong about that...
The worst part about this is that three (3) people have come to me today and told me that the only reason people join the military is for money... As if I make more as a military surgeon than a civilian surgeon. I told them they should never utter those words around me as I bleed American, not money.
The worst is that Rangel is sticking with dumb people everywhere-- who are also the most outspoken.
Best they not speak of such things to me..
Don't be discouraged Doc, most folks know good and well what you sacrifice.
You and all the military medical folks have my gratitude and appreciation. I am living/seeing/walking proof of the Military Surgeon's skill (and a year 5 days a week 2 hours a day tormented by a beautiful female 2nd Lt (who got promoted). She must have graduated from the Waffen SS school of physical therapy) Jeez Louise.
Come to think of it I do have a complaint. Everybody did a great job but the "Brain Surgeons" they just shook their heads and said they had nothing to work with!!!)
What were they talking about?
Wm
This is infuriating.
My husband was a Cavalry Scout in the Army. He chose to join not only because he loved all things military but because it was the only chance he would have had to go to college. And he finished college on the GI bill so fast and with such terrific grades that they offered a loan to him to go to law school. Which he did, after testing in the 96th percentile on the LSAT....after studying for one night before. He is now a successful lawyer with a successful career.
Yup. My husband had no future alright.
What a putz.
(What I am saying is that my husband most certainly joined because he loved his country and the military and everyone in his family was in the service...and you bet the benefits for a college education helped.....but it wasn't the only thing....my husband certainly didn't have to choose a combat MOS to get those, now did he???)
