Hear that, son? You're a college graduate, Stryker Platoon Leader......serving in Iraq..........because you were too dumb to make it elsewhere; so says Rangel.
.......and to think that I was less than five feet away from that son of a bitch on a recent business trip.........

You may be right..I suspect you are. He could have joined without a degree in those days. And, his service could have gotten him into college. The wikipedia entry could be wrong.

Additional info - Charlie says on his web site he was in Army.
"Congressman Rangel served in the U.S. Army from 1948-52, during which time he fought in Korea and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star."

Yeah, I'm glad he's trying to "help" by talking up the draft. As if that'll improve the quality of people in the military. We may all be a bunch of idiots to Kerry and Rangel, but at least we're a bunch of MOTIVATED idiots. The draft would do horrendous damage to us all.

Rangel and Kerry have no sense nor understanding of patriotism.

"No young, bright individual wants to fight just because of a bonus and just because of educational benefits. "
It isn;t hate he feels....it is ignorance he reveals
Quite literally he has no idea what drives the Patriot.. it is beyond him to understand the meaning of Service... His statement is really a Rorschach test of his soul, a test where he has been "tried and found wanting".
I would suggest it reflects the soul of the majority on the left and sadly far too many in positions of influence on the right.
Soulless without God how could they believe anyone knowingly sacrifices ones health, limbs, and or willingly risks spending the rest of their life in torment and pain.
In the eyes of people like him Servicemen and Women are fools.
I remember in 1975 a 2nd Lt LeEllen Kubow USMC daughter of our Sgt Major Kubow USMC talking one day of her Mom putting out popcorn so she and her siblings as kids would not be hungry just before payday. She was 20 something. I looked at a Sgt who worked nights, was receiving food stamps to care for his wife and two little blond haired blue eyed girls.. Nothing had changed and it made me angry
Congressmen C. Rangel,, I have always kind of put you in different place than the liberal sacks of crap of your party. I see in you the potential to be a decent fellow Such words as you said above are the braying of an ass.
Take them back, apologize, come live with GI's for a while join them in field and place your life in peril for others just for a while. Spend a month sleeping in an Active Duty or VA Medical ward, listen and learn. Regain your soul.
"Greater love has no man than he lay down his life..."
That Biblical quote alone and the distance between it and his words demonstrates why I believe the overwhelming majority of our elected officials do not deserve the positions of authority and trust they now hold for.
"We the people".

The worst part about this is that three (3) people have come to me today and told me that the only reason people join the military is for money... As if I make more as a military surgeon than a civilian surgeon. I told them they should never utter those words around me as I bleed American, not money.
The worst is that Rangel is sticking with dumb people everywhere-- who are also the most outspoken.
To: skippermd
Best they not speak of such things to me..
Don't be discouraged Doc, most folks know good and well what you sacrifice.
You and all the military medical folks have my gratitude and appreciation. I am living/seeing/walking proof of the Military Surgeon's skill (and a year 5 days a week 2 hours a day tormented by a beautiful female 2nd Lt (who got promoted). She must have graduated from the Waffen SS school of physical therapy) Jeez Louise.
Come to think of it I do have a complaint. Everybody did a great job but the "Brain Surgeons" they just shook their heads and said they had nothing to work with!!!)
What were they talking about?

This is infuriating.
My husband was a Cavalry Scout in the Army. He chose to join not only because he loved all things military but because it was the only chance he would have had to go to college. And he finished college on the GI bill so fast and with such terrific grades that they offered a loan to him to go to law school. Which he did, after testing in the 96th percentile on the LSAT....after studying for one night before. He is now a successful lawyer with a successful career.
Yup. My husband had no future alright.
What a putz.
To: Laissez-faire capitalist
(What I am saying is that my husband most certainly joined because he loved his country and the military and everyone in his family was in the service...and you bet the benefits for a college education helped.....but it wasn't the only thing....my husband certainly didn't have to choose a combat MOS to get those, now did he???)
