Jackson Calls For Entertainment Industry N-Word Ban Initiative Spurred By Michael Richards' Racial Rant
POSTED: 4:07 pm EST November 27, 2006 LOS ANGELES -- The Rev. Jesse Jackson is calling on the entertainment industry to stop using the racial slur that Michael Richards used against hecklers in a Los Angeles comedy club.
Jackson and others told reporters Monday that they'll meet with television networks, film companies and musicians to talk about the n-word.
Jackson is also asking the public not to buy a DVD box set of the seventh season of "Seinfeld." The set was released last week, the same week that former Seinfeld star Richards was videotaped unleashing a racist rant against the black hecklers.
Richards had made several apologies, including one Sunday on Jackson's syndicated radio show. He has said he's not a racist, and that he was motivated by anger.
A comedian attending Monday's news conference, Paul Mooney, said he's used the n-word numerous times during stand-up performances, but that he'll no longer do so after watching Richards' rant.

I don't even like Seinfeld and I might buy the latest set.
I'm putting it on my Christmas list.
Can rappers still use it?
Good, no more hip hop songs with that word - kinda like the pot calling the kettle...never mind
I don't remember him being upset about Richard Pryor using it.
Sure, ban Seinfeld but keep on buying the rap musicians who use the n word. Makes sense.
But what would Rappers rap about, and what would black comedians (Chris Rock) joke about?
Rush shot back at Jesse good this morning.
He claimed Richards was "sick" (as in diseased) and needed to "get better".
Rush asked "After the Rev. Jackson called New York "Hymietown" and Jews "Hymies", where did HE go to "get better"?"
Can't wait to see the South Park episode on this.....
What a joke.
This brings up the point that if a white person says it, it's a terrible insult. But if a black person says it, it's a term of endearment. If a white entertainer says it, he's racist and should be censored. If a black rapper sings it, then it's ok, he's just expressing the anguish of life in the ghetto.
Just so I understand the rules here.
1/4 black?
1/8 black?
1/16 black?
1/32 black? etc.
He needs to start with those who use this word the most - rap and hip hop record labels.
i mark the end of our society at the precise moment that mark fuhrman was punished worse in the court of public opinion for using the n word than OJ was for cutting off two peoples' heads.
"He has said he's not a racist, and that he was motivated by anger."
Probably true. He went for the nuclear option right off the bat. That's what happens when meaningless words are given such power.
So just "nigger" is banned, huh? Coon, cracker, wop, spick, gook, slope, and wetback and OK, though? Good news.
Clearly, Richards failed to make a "donation" to Jackson's "Rainbow Coalition".
With scumbags like Jackson and Sharpton, it's all about the money.
It's always about the money.
There's always MFer, CSer, WTF, F this and F that, etc. Too bad we can't resuscitate Fred Allen, Jack Benny and Red Skelton.
