Donald Tomczak, 71, formerly No. 2 in the city's Water Management Department, was sentenced to about four years in prison, ordered to forfeit $175,000 and fined another $15,000. Tomczak lost his more than $89,000 annual pension that he had accrued after 45 years.

Tomczak also admitted he commanded a 250-strong army of water department employees who did political work for Mayor Daley, Al Gore, Rahm Emanuel and others in exchange for promotions, pay raises and overtime. Underlings who acted as Tomczak's bagmen also admitted shaking down truck companies for campaign contributions to Daley, mayoral brother John Daley's 11th Ward Regular Democratic Organization and for Tomczak's son, former Will County State's Attorney Jeff Tomczak.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Collins said Tomczak's criminal acts spanned two decades and were "stunning in their scope and duration." Collins said bribe-taking does still go on and corruption has become more sophisticated

Any chance this might go high enough to bite Daley, or (oh please oh please) the national Dem organization? Chicago, and Ill. in general, would be a much nicer (read: much less socialist) place in general without that turd.
