U.S. Embassy Asks Bush Twins to Leave Country
ABC News ^ | November 27, 2006 | Joe Goldman and Rhonda Schwartz

Posted on 11/27/2006 11:30:43 AM PST by West Coast Conservative

Amid a growing barrage of front-page headlines, U.S. embassy officials "strongly suggested" President Bush's twin daughters, Jenna and Barbara Bush, cut short their trip to Buenos Aires because of security issues, U.S. diplomatic and security sources tell ABC News.

But the girls have stayed on, celebrating their 25th birthday over the weekend and producing even more headlines about their activities.

Officials say the media coverage upstaged publicity plans for the new U.S. Ambassador Anthony Wayne, who had only recently arrived in the country.

Neither the White House nor the U.S. embassy in Buenos Aires responded to requests for comment.

The Argentinean press blitz followed a report on "The Blotter" last week that Barbara Bush's purse and cell phone were stolen last weekend while dining at the popular San Telmo outdoor marketplace despite being guarded by the Secret Service.

Stories of the twins' visit took on wild proportions in the Argentinean press. One tabloid headline had the young women running nude in the hallway of their hotel, a report the hotel staff denied to ABC News.

According to sources, the U.S. embassy encouraged the two girls to cut their stay short because the added attention was making their security very difficult.

But to the dismay and anger of some U.S. embassy and security staff, the girls stayed on.

Thursday night, an ABC News producer was able to walk into their hotel unchecked and engage Barbara Bush in conversation while she checked her e-mail on a computer in the lobby. Jenna sat talking with friends on a sofa nearby. No Secret Service agents were anywhere to be seen in the lobby, according to ABC News' Joe Goldman.

And yesterday the Bush twins were spotted at the Sunday soccer matches, wearing team jerseys and sitting in the owner's box, watching Argentina's top team Boca Juniors compete. Several games have been canceled due to violence in the crowds this year. In fact, last weekend no spectators were allowed to attend the match other than season ticket holders.

Sources tell ABC News the twins plan to stick to their original itinerary and stay in Buenos Aires until Thursday.

Look at the blasted replies why don't you! Two girls who are in the eyes of rouge cells collateral pawns and BTW those posting like me thought the story was accurate. They were cheering them on. Would you have cheered if it were Chelsy? I would have called her just as stupid. No double standard from me on that issue. Ignoring State Department travel warnings and U.S. Embassy request while traveling in a FOREIGN NATION does not make one smart, brave, or cute. It makes one stupid. As stupid as those cheering such behavior on!

Now part two. One was robbed. That was a security breach. SS failed time to get her out. Common sense!

I can just imagine the comments if there was an identical story and the subject was Chelsea Clinton.

You paint with a wide brush. My feelings about Chelsea Clinton and the Bush girls are exactly the same. Leave them be.

Look at the reply number I posted too. I'll tell you what I admit I posted to what have may be a bogus story like everyone else in this thread. I thought they refused to leave and they may well have. Who knows? What irks me is adults cheering on what would have been not a good idea no matter who's pop was POTUS. Do you hear them admit they were wrong on that?

What I have a strong aversion to are hypocrites. And to political idol worship.

Go ahead and tell me that you would call Clinton courageous, and cheer her on, if she ignored US security warnings on the taxpayers' dime.

"We have seen a report from news sources stating that embassy officials strongly suggested that President Bush's daughters curtail their visit in Argentina," the U.S. Embassy said in a written statement. "This is false."

"The embassy welcomes the visit and has provided close support and cooperation," the statement read.

Just keeping it real.

Fact. The State Department did NOT warn them of anything, and they did not ignore any request.

It's a bogus story.

They are being treated as dignitaries and important visitors as all special guests are by U.S. Embassies all over the world.

They have done nothing stupid. They have done nothing reckless. They have done nothing irresponsible. They are celebrating their 25th birthday together in a wonderful city.

The story is not true.....at ALL.

Why would the State Department get involved?

Because Embassy people detest the thought of any local events that might interfere with their two-hour lunches. Events, such as actually helping out Americans who get into trouble overseas.

The Embassy did not do what this story said it did, Sabra.

Are you getting this yet?

I know you really want the Bush daughters to have done something stupid because you can't stand their father, but you're out of luck with this one.

Go bash Dad someplace else. You have lots of company on FR these days.........trolls, isolationists, morons........all sorts of company.

Since nothing you said in that post has any truth in it, there's nothing specific to refute.

It's all wrong.

Then all the cheerleading was for nothing.

But I'm sure you'll find something else to cheer.

"The embassy welcomes the visit and has provided close support and cooperation," the statement read.

Exactly. This story made no sense from the get-go. The Ambassador appointed by the President would not tell his daughters to leave.

And if there were a legitimate 'warning' the daughters would not be able to rebel against it.

It's all ridiculous.

LOL! Why should they not stay when they were not warned to leave?

They should go home because a bogus story was written by ABC? Is that it?

Then your problems are deeper than previously thought.

btw, I don't 'reflex'.......I THINK.

Something that you obviously avoid at all costs.....

But that's OK. Your emotions are amusing.
