U.S. Embassy Asks Bush Twins to Leave Country
ABC News ^ | November 27, 2006 | Joe Goldman and Rhonda Schwartz

Posted on 11/27/2006 11:30:43 AM PST by West Coast Conservative

Amid a growing barrage of front-page headlines, U.S. embassy officials "strongly suggested" President Bush's twin daughters, Jenna and Barbara Bush, cut short their trip to Buenos Aires because of security issues, U.S. diplomatic and security sources tell ABC News.

But the girls have stayed on, celebrating their 25th birthday over the weekend and producing even more headlines about their activities.

Officials say the media coverage upstaged publicity plans for the new U.S. Ambassador Anthony Wayne, who had only recently arrived in the country.

Neither the White House nor the U.S. embassy in Buenos Aires responded to requests for comment.

The Argentinean press blitz followed a report on "The Blotter" last week that Barbara Bush's purse and cell phone were stolen last weekend while dining at the popular San Telmo outdoor marketplace despite being guarded by the Secret Service.

Stories of the twins' visit took on wild proportions in the Argentinean press. One tabloid headline had the young women running nude in the hallway of their hotel, a report the hotel staff denied to ABC News.

According to sources, the U.S. embassy encouraged the two girls to cut their stay short because the added attention was making their security very difficult.

But to the dismay and anger of some U.S. embassy and security staff, the girls stayed on.

Thursday night, an ABC News producer was able to walk into their hotel unchecked and engage Barbara Bush in conversation while she checked her e-mail on a computer in the lobby. Jenna sat talking with friends on a sofa nearby. No Secret Service agents were anywhere to be seen in the lobby, according to ABC News' Joe Goldman.

And yesterday the Bush twins were spotted at the Sunday soccer matches, wearing team jerseys and sitting in the owner's box, watching Argentina's top team Boca Juniors compete. Several games have been canceled due to violence in the crowds this year. In fact, last weekend no spectators were allowed to attend the match other than season ticket holders.

Sources tell ABC News the twins plan to stick to their original itinerary and stay in Buenos Aires until Thursday.

Getting arrested for underage drinking and possession of a fake ID on the other hand, that isn't quite so responsible in my book.

That's never happened before in the history of our Republic. It only happens about 40 times an hour.

Please, both sides -- cut these girls some slack. They don't have to be perfect, neither do they have to be drunken harlots.

LOL! SIX years ago, jpl. I suggest you expand your reading beyond the GLOBE.

The 'girls' have grown up and have been responsible young ladies for many years now.

I've heard from anonymous sources that the US supported the Contras because of jet-setting Bianca Jagger.

I know that she's the reason I've always wanted us to nuke Nicaragua. (/s)

It was probably safer with them there than it ever has been before.

I hope they get asked back. :)

It is clearly not State Department policy to 'kick out' the daughters of the President from any country.........especially when they have done absolutely nothing wrong.

I'd go with your guess that it was an angry leftist lifer griping to a leftist 'journalist' who was all too anxious to twist in in the worst possible light for public consumption.

And for the consumption of the gullible right here on FR, I'd say....

LOL! That's IT, Kath. We need to send Argentina our tired and poor, and huddled masses yearning to breathe free......and THEN they'd like us.

Mmmmm, let me consider. A conspiracy between MSM and disgruntled state dept. worker or two young single women in the new uber-hipster capital? MMmmmm.

That is ridiculous. They are entitled to a vacation if they want one. And it is no ones business where they take it. If there Father did not want them there I am sure they would not be there.

It's great that the twins get along so well with each other and are enjoying their vacation together. Why should their freedom to travel be curtailed by a bunch of old fags down in the Buenos Aires US Embassy?

The State Department can bite me!

No conspiracy, durasell. Just an anti-Bush griper whining to an anti-Bush journalist who writes an article that makes much more of a situation than exists - for the sole purpose of embarrassing the President.

It's not exactly far-fetched. It's actually more difficult to believe that these 25 year old young women celebrating their birthday were actually causing enough trouble to get 'kicked out' of a country by their own State Department.

That makes no sense whatsoever.............does it?? C'mon!

I can't believe it, 190+ posts and nobody (unless I missed it buried) has written it: Anthony Wayne is just mad.

"Thumbs up!"

Wonder if I am the only freeper to get kicked out of a town?

It only took a few hours before the local sheriff instructed us it was time to hit the road.

My brother and I were kicked out of Beatty, NV in the '70s.

I think that ticketing college kids for underage drinking was how the city of Champaign made money. That suggests that they were like lots of college students. Probably naive to think that they weren't going to get caught, but not that different from any other college kids.
