I've spent the last few years trying to make people get the obvious point.
A billion people of whom a destressingly large percentage hate us.

However, this is an open forum. Anyone, anywhere in the world can log on. Also, this is a well-known forum that is known for supporting the President and his policies. If you were some Muslim kid in the Middle East and logged on from an internet cafe, you might find this thread distressing. If you were a radical iman who genuinely hated the U.S., you might circulate this entire thread and make it the basis of a sermon. The "vaporize mecca" would be a crowd pleaser, no doubt.

Actually only 10 or 12% of Muslims (a paltry 200-250 Million folks, or so) insist on your immediate death or conversion to our true faith. This being their version of their own personal jihad, I must support that aspect of our faith. Of course, even though I disagree with them, I would not dream of confronting them about it, or Allah forbid, go public with my views.

Don't need to use internet: all they need to do is go to mosque. You know, there is nothing new about this stuff. More than a hundred thirty years ago, for instance, the Turkish sultans tried to gin up support for their regime by calling Muslims to arms. The Armenian genocide was caused by a flare-up of this sentiment, even if the leaders of Turkeys were so-called modernists. A few years later, during the war with the Greeks, once more the call went out.
The Arabs in the Palestinian mandate voiced their displeasure with British rule by damning the Jews. The establishment of Israel, of course, got them hot to trot. There are, of course, forms of Islam which are softer, and what we would call spiritual. For instance, sufism, which once was the dominant form in the United States. But the kind that is propogated by our "allies," the Saudis, is pretty normative, at least for the Sunni Arabs. The Shiism of the Iranians is just as hatefull as the wahabbists, and unlike the latter has a large population udner its control.
I sure hope you're not presuming to know my views on Iraq and I sure hope you're not refering to me as a Freeper General. If so, you ought to do some research and not jump to conclusions. Don't paint me with a broad brush unless I've given you reason to do so.

Arab society of the 7th Century was essentially a non-civilized society. They did not seem to do much in the way of agriculture or manufactoring. They did caravans transporting goods between Eastern and Western civilizations, and robbed each others caravans. This is the model that Islam is based on: raid, conquer, loot
