BRUSSELS, PRIŠTINA -- Joachim Ruecker says that the Kosovo institutions’ wish to have a Brussels office has come true.
The UNMIK chief has added that the Brussels office will have a technical role, and will be led by the international administration officials.
Ruecker did not provide many details, but said that the office will serve to bring Kosovo and the EU closer, “bearing in mind Kosovo’s desire to one day take part in the European integrations.”
Ruecker returned to Priština from his Friday Vienna meeting with UN special Kosovo envoy Martti Ahtisaari.
The UNMIK chief said he believed there would be no further delays, and that Ahtisaari will present his Kosovo status proposal at the end of January 2007.
“Independent Kosovo contrary to EU trends”
Spanish Secretary of State for European Affairs Alberto Navarro says his country favors immediate continuation of the EU stabilization and association talks with Serbia, conditioning the signing of the agreement on Belgrade’s full cooperation with the Hague tribunal.
“We support the Italian proposal, especially as it is also backed by Austria, Slovenia, Greece, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria. We will try to have this issue on the agenda at the next ministerial meeting, although there is strong from the UK and the Scandinavian countries”, Navarro said in an interview with Novosti.
He also said Kosovo’s independence would be contrary to EU trends, which aim at creating multiethnic states. Navarro concluded that the Spanish experiences provide for a good example on how to solve the Kosovo problem.
Hmmm.. Basqe region, Catalonia, Galicia... Spaniards are not as stupid as rest of the Eu...
B92 is TV station founded bz Soros monez, so thez have ..."ommited" from Alberto Navarro`s interview to "Novosti" following statement:
"We (Spaniards) are not for the solution that imposses independance of Kosovo. We do not belive that would be a positive step towards strenghtening democratic forces and stabilitz in the region. For us the Helsinki accord that states to preserve internationaly recognised borders is still acting and we support that accord"
Interesting thin is that this statement is actually very first and opening line in the interview that bares title:"AGAINST KOSOVO AS COUNTRY"
Funny how Soros fluffers omitt such small details...
Ruecker did not provide many details, but said that the office will serve to bring Kosovo and the EU closer, bearing in mind Kosovos desire to one day take part in the European integrations.
UNMIK increase security after unspecified threat

PRITINA -- U.N. police in Kosovo increased security measures Monday after receiving an unspecified but credible threat.
The U.N. police part of a larger international force that has patrolled Kosovo since the end of the war in 1999 did not specify the nature of the threat or provide any details about how the information was received.
"This current threat is being taken seriously by authorities, and citizens will see an increase in police activity and presence," the force said in a written statement. NATO-led peacekeepers also said they will be more visible on the streets.
A demonstration by opponents of negotiations with Serbia is planned for Tuesday in Kosovo's provincial capital, though the U.N. statement did not directly link the threat to the scheduled rally.
The organizer of the demonstration, a group called Self-determination, has in the past vandalized U.N. vehicles and buildings, and the group's leader, Albin Kurti, has been apprehended several times.
The U.N. statement said attacks against U.N. personnel or property would be "destructive and counterproductive" and would be a setback for Kosovo at a critical stage in the negotiations with Serbia.
The U.N. has been mediating talks since February aimed at determining Kosovo's final, postwar status. The province's ethnic Albanians want independence from Serbia, while Belgrade is insisting on keeping at least some control over the province.
Ivanoviæ: We feel safer
Serb Kosovo List leader Oliver Ivanoviæ told B92 that UNMIKs latest decision to increase the level of security increases the feeling of safety among Kosovo Serbs.
It is anyhow part of the earlier proclaimed policy to have KFOR react to any attempt to disturb the peace, regardless of the perpetrators ethnic background, Ivanoviæ says.
I think what this means is that those units that deployed recently, and those expected to deploy will represent a threat to all those who intend to use violence. In any case, we will need increased security from this day on, Ivanoviæ concluded.
