Meanwhile, if a conservative "community leader" had gotten so much as a parking ticket it would be the crime of the century.

"Protected" doesn't really described the situation.
They are enthusiastically celebrated and lovingly embraced!
The more bent and morally criminal, the more they are affirmed in
the "world turned upside down" view of liberalism.
