Arnold is Arnold (FR poster 'calcowgirl' mentioned in LA Times blog)
Los Angeles Times ^ | Nov. 22, 2006 | Robert Sallday

Quietly encouraged by the Schwarzenegger administration, a lot of pundits nevertheless have been pushing this idea of an Arnold Way for the Beltway. But conservatives - the ones who would actually have to change their course under the Arnold Way — aren't buying it.

CNN's Bill Schneider "informed the GOP that the way to recover from midterm losses is to imitate Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and embrace liberal policies," the liberal-media hating News Busters concluded. My favorite response to the Whalen piece came from Weekly Standard reader Calcowgirl, who simply pointed to Schwarzenegger's deeds as proof he wasn't one of them. She (I assumed Calcowgirl is a female) keeps a list of the governor's offenses from 2006:

.........

-- Signed AB 1207, Code of Fair Campaign Practices (homosexual agenda)

Absentee ballots are part of the homosexual agenda? Anyway, the real question is: How many of these would President George W. Bush support?

Of course, neither calcowgirl, nor the author of this blog mentioned all the conservative things Arnold DID do, such as pushing though the workers comp reform, helping businesses, NOT raising taxes despite Dem pressure, vetoing the homosexual marriage bill and the homosexual indoctrination in schools bill, vetoing the government run universal healthcare bill, vetoing the drivers licenses for illegals bill at least twice, having pushed for the special election, for voters to vote on the conservative propositions, that tried to restrict spending, take away power from the unions, change the gerrymendered districts, etc.

I think the author is using calcowgirl's list to demonstrate how out of touch conservatives are.

And just how out of touch are we?

Make no mistake, Arnie's a RINO. The fact that he's taken some actions which conform to conservative ideals doesn't make him a conservative.

IIRC even the 9th Circuit court made a conservative ruling in United States v. Stewart. Would you argue that that court's comprised of conservatives?

It just occurred to me that the majority of Californians can't pronounce Schwarzenegger so it has to be something simple like Arnold.

I personally cannot believe that anyone with the brains that the Good Lord gave a housecat would discuss "Arnold may run for the Presidency"

He was born in Austria, he cannot run for President.

CNN is creating a strawman to hype as "the Ideal Republican Candidate".

Obviously a liberal writing for the LATimes isn't going to have a friendly opinion of conservatives. But in fact he uses the Calcowgirl quote to show that conservatives don't like Arnold, because he's pushing a liberal agenda, and he's right about that.

Also, any reference to FR increases traffic and brings new Freepers. So bring it on.

Well, Gray Davis did a few conservative things too...

I would agree that Arnold is better than a Dem governor, but by no means is he a great governor. I'm lukewarm to him at best.

It is about some posters posting as caricatures of conservatives, and the MSM, predictably, uses them to paint all conservatives as out of the mainstream.

Calcowgirl made a career of bashing Arnold, not giving credit to him for anything, but never criticizing the leftist Democrats. That doesn't sound like a conservative attitude.

In the meantime REAL conservatives recognized that while Arnold may not be conservative, but he has kept the socialist Dem Legislature from enacting their full agenda, by vetoing key bills and there is night and day between Arnold and his ex-Dem opponent, Angelides.

The faux-conservatives worked hard to bash Arnold to try to get real conservatives to stay home, so the Dems can get elected.

Arnold did that himself by signing the liberal bills cowgirl listed and giving Republicans nothing to chose from.

Now please go feed the squirrels or something. You are a pain in the clymer.

Ahhhhhhhhh... That's too beautiful to resist posting again!!!

My favorite response to the Whalen piece came from Weekly Standard reader Calcowgirl, who simply pointed to Schwarzenegger's deeds as proof he wasn't one of them. She (I assumed Calcowgirl is a female) keeps a list of the governor's offenses from 2006:

Signed AB 1835, Minimum Wage Increase

I just love your quasi-feminine pretzel "logic!" Ha Ha Ha!!! Beware you don't become a comical caricature of a pseudo "conservative" who has a comical way of twisting and spinning everything legitimate you come across. That would be truly tragic, indeed!!!

Sadly, I would say that conservatives are out of the mainstream in California. In the densely populated regions (Bay Area and greater LA), the populace is full of "fruits, nuts, and flakes." I'm proud to say I'm nowhere near them in my political alignment.

I don't think anyone here has made an effort to solely bashing Arnold while ignoring the marxists' attempts to destroy our state. I just think that we all agree that the dims are off their rocker, and that it's important to point out those who (for some people who can't recognize a RINO unless someone yells it in their faces) are wolves in sheeps' clothing.

I'd be disappointed with those who stayed at home just to avoid voting for Arnold, but I voted for Arnie gritting my teeth and holding my nose. If someone didn't vote for him (or Poizner) but voted for the true conservatives (and any of the lesser-right folk), that's perfectly good as far as I see.

As for the comparison between Arnie and Angelides, that right there speaks volumes about the depths from which our state has to rise.
