I have no desire to see this turn into another war, where our troops apparently died in vain; that means seeing Iraq through to victory. Our opposition on the left knows nothing other than Viet Nam, and attempts to recreate it with every military intervention. What has me dismayed, though, is the apparent sacking of Donald Rumsfeld, in favor of the James Baker ISG "realist" camp, who reportedly want to negotiate with Iran and Syria. I'm not cutting and running, but more than just a little bit of doubt is beginning to trickle in, as far as the administration's commitment to not cutting and running themselves. I would feel much better if this was negated and laid to rest.

Do you really think that our troops died in vain in Vietnam? I don't. In fact, I visited Vietnam a few years ago and I must say that thanks to the U.S. it has turned out to be a great country. We are going to be having close ties with the country shortly and be an intrical part of President's Bush's Global initiative (regardless of agreement or not that is not the point at this time). I think the country of Vietnam is better because of us. Sorry can't seem to agree with everyone that the military's lives were waisted in Vietnam.

Unfortunately this war will become another Viet Nam if we don't let the troops do what they are there for. Kill the terrorists. If they are tied to the point of not killing terrorists because they are at a cemetery, we will lose. Let the generals and soldiers do what they are trained for. Don't let the politicians pick and choose targets from Washington DC. Let the politicians do what they do best, NOTHING.

This is just a guess: Bush has been trying to get either China or Russia to back US against Iran before we make a further move in Iraq; I believe that Afganistan and Iraq, hemming in Iran as they do, were "stepping stones" to pressure Iran. But we can't go it alone, and it's back to the old 3-power balancing act. Recently, Putin shows he's backing Iran. And that means we have to get China to go with us. IMHO. And of course, with the help of the Leftist Dems and their fellowtravelers in the media, Russia and China see they can bide their time and gain concessions from W, b/c they see W as losing power in Congress. Our stoopid Republican Congresspeople just piled on, with their foes, the Dems during the last election cycle, and that left W isolated, with few choices. It might be that the Clintons (ugh) may be a bridge for US to the Chinese; it's not my ideal but look for that development.
