I think today's poll sheds light on this. There are as few people who want to stay the course as want to cut and run. It would seem that the general consensus is that we are fighting another PC police action and aren't kicking enough butts to win.

Actual analysis amidst the shouting? Talk about a diamond in the rough.

Your point about the FR poll is an excellent one, because it exposes the disconnect between FR and reality. The options are like a relative counseling a broke gambler on what to do about his debts. He can (a) wait for the loan sharks to come break his kneecaps, (b) skip town, or (c) win the lottery.

So this morning's poll tells us that 61% of concerned relatives voted for "win the lottery". Great plan. Admirable. Let me know how that works out. Oh, wait, it won't.

It's time to get serious, and hoping for a miracle ain't gonna cut it. "Do whatever it takes to win" is not on the table. President Bush and the administration will leave Iraq in blazing, burning defeat long before that becomes an option.

"Send in the bombers"? Did anyone seriously vote for that? While we're at it, why not list "Woo them with candy, sunshine and flowers" as an option, too? The reason FR is having a hard time understanding what's going on with the Iraq war is that the local group think is dangerously divorced from reality.
