Thank you for the welcome. Harris' book goes beyond any individual culture in that he uncovers common motivations and behaviors in many cultures over many centuries. It is one of the more lucid (and controversial ) treatises in the field of cultural anthropology. I think you would enjoy it.

I'll be looking for that book tomorrow too. Here's and old book that clears up a lot of misconceptions about South Africa. The Washing of the Spears by Donald Morris. 1965. It's a bear to read but worthwhile.
