first "mainstream" papers to cheer Rangel's draft legislation. Of course the MSM will support it.
A draft would hurt the American military and that is one of their agendas.

'splain to me the logic, the rationale (if any) to the reconsideration of 'the draft' in the light of a
working volunteer system?
I thought the WHOLE point of a non-draft based system was to get motivated individuals IN the armed forces - and not involuntary against-their-will 'conscripts'.
I am prepared that there is no logic or rationale behind the call for a reinstatement of the draft, but rather this is more twisted political posturing by the demoncrats ...

"Privilege shouldn't be a factor in deciding whether you have to go fight in Iraq, Afghanistan or any of the other war-torn theaters across the globe."
Right now it doesn't. Make a draft happen and it will. This is a total disconnect from reality. The military as a whole, is more educated than the general population and just as racially diverse. This is an issue made up out of whole cloth.
American wars are fought today by those who want to fight them.

'splain to me the logic, the rationale (if any) to the reconsideration of 'the draft' in the light of a working volunteer system? Rangel knows that by bringing back the draft and drafting people that don't want to join will only cause more chaos and problems for the military. There will be ton of draft dodgers and deserters. The MSM will be showing students on campus burning their draft cards. Then with the help of the MSM, Rangel and his evil leftist cohorts will spin this around and blame it on Republicans and Conservatives. The entire idea of bringing back the draft is for the sole purpose of destroying our armed forces. Rangel is an evil America hating communist who will not be happy until our country is destroyed.

Fine, let's give it to them. Let's let the 'Rats "own" the draft.

Rangel needs to think through his rationale again. The existence of a draft didn't keep his party from sending a lot of kids to Viet Nam.

The other reason a draft will fail is that there is no longer any stigma to showing up at the induction center smoking a huge joint and lip locking the first guy you see in uniform.

Barney Frank, et al, are already looking at overturning "dont ask..."

My solution: Draft only those young men who in the country ILLEGALLY. Hey, they want a path to citizenship?

The whole issue is insane. Rangel didn't even propose a military draft. He proposed narrowing the options for all 18-20 year olds to a set of government sanctioned activities, only one of which was military service.
Maybe legislators would pass different littering laws if their son was in the ditches picking up trash.
