WASHINGTON -- Internal strife within the Baker commission, outright opposition from President George W. Bush and Tuesday's assassination of a cabinet member in Lebanon are complicating the prospect of U.S. overtures to Syria and Iran over Iraq, informed sources say.

Nothing would be worse than a nuclear Iran.

"Baker and Hamilton have made it clear they favor a U.S. dialogue with Iraq's neighbors, particularly Iran and Syria, as one way out of the Iraq crisis. This thinking reflects hopes that Iran could use its strong influence on Iraqi Shia and Syria its control over Iraq's most porous border..."

Maybe they should pay attention to what Ahmadinejad says about us: "He also termed the recent US midterm legislative elections not just a defeat for the ruling party but as a failure of the policies of the US administration, stressing that the result of the said elections would accelerate the demise of the US hegemonic system."

Phebe Marr, an Iraq expert who advised the Baker group, said that while she favors approaching Iran and Syria for help, the United States would have to make concessions to each country.

Sure, lets give the fox the keys to the henhouse.

How about Robert Spencer or Daniel Pipes heading this group instead of a bunch of Arabists?

I dont know what kind of overtures can be made to Syria or Iran. Iran has sworn to destroy Israel. They have supplied Hezballah through Syria. Syria is in league with Hezballah and intends to replace the legitimate government with agents of Hizballah.Virtually taking control of Lebanon. Syria has a Nuclear program also thanks to saddam and his sending his WMD's over there. Iran has not made any efforts to stop or hide the fact they are becoming more militant every day. If irans neighbors were smart they would be begging the Un to step in and stop Iran.

And we are making overtures. The heats on fellas , the fuse is lit and the only thing we dont know is when the explosion is coming.

Iran has sworn to destroy Israel.

And would like to destroy the US but hold back from saying so publicly.

Syria and Iran are two asses that need lickin'.

And the Baker Group with that one worlder list of members can go scratch.

We have to win in Iraq-period. We need to be bombing things along the borders with Syria and Iran to let them know it is no longer business as usual. They have to stop sending terrorists and supplies into Iraq.

As for withdrawing from Iraq, here's a word for the Baker Group and the Demoncrats--NUTS!

Come Monday, we need to let Congress know that we want victory, not cutting and running.

Come Monday, we need to let Congress know that we want victory, not cutting and running.

We should have sent that message last November 7th.

I know we did our part.

But only half the people voted on Nov. 7th.

We need to wake up people--and this is a good time to do it.

The past is past. This Baker Group can do immeasurable harm to us and our posterity--they have to be countered.

You don't negotiate with evil--you destroy it.

Well OF COURSE Iran can use its 'influence' to help quiet down Iraq. Considering 85% of IED's have Iranian components.

They control the faucet and can turn it up, or slow it down (for a political gain) at will through their massive funding and material support to Shia militias. (ie Sadr)

What Baker is actually doing is trying to 'negotiate' a surrender.

What does Iran want to stop fighting us in Iraq and let us rebuild in peace...

The main problem with that what Iran wants is us to convert (or preferably) to die, and any 'agreement' we make with them will merely be something else to pivot off and exploit politically/diplomatically designed to weaken us for a time of their choosing.
