This article comes from the New Zealand Herald, part of the Independent (UK) chain. They will not let us post their material on FR.
However, this article is well written and contains a good summary of some of the issues facing Airbus.
The author concludes that the A380's $14 billion development cost, combined with at least $7 billion in lost profits from the A380's delays, combined with the estimated $12 billion that will be required to come up with the 350XWB answer to the 787 Dreamliner, may be too much for Airbus to overcome.
Aviation buffs should find this article worth a read.
Schadenfreude alert!
There must be a lot more than "wiring" to delay construction.
The freighter version would not have the wiring to seats that they explain, as the problem.
I think it is more the 5 tons overweight that is the problem.
It reduces either the payload or fuel enough that it won't work in the proposed applications.

Airbus won't go down. Unlike Boeing, their losses are covered by the taxpayers.
LOL, when I first saw your photo, with the fisheye character of the nose of the plane, it looked to me like something had laid a giant egg.
So all of OldEurope sinks with Airbust. It's not like they've been particularily useful in stopping the Islamokazis.

"I thought that I read in a different article posted on FR in the past week that Airbus had solved the weight problem."
The frogs wil probably solve that problem by posting a no passanger over 100# admited.
What did they do?
Must have left off the vertical tail and solved the problem of it falling off in flight.
I'd be interested if you can find this article and ping me to it as I am in the industry and I had not heard this yet. I'm in the camp of believers that this is the real problem, not some "wiring problems". It is not easy (or cheap) to wring five tons out of a design this late in the game.
to chirac, concorde's history is something to be proud of.

Read it carefully, because they claim to have a solution but never specify what or how. Later on in the article the tense changes from present to future, as in "will have solved". I think they're assuming and hoping more than solving...
