HEARNE - Paul Wartham made a three-hour drive from Fort Worth to College Station on Tuesday to watch a 45-foot bonfire burn, and when he learned he had to wait an hour longer than expected, he said he didn't mind.
"I think that bonfire is great," said the 50-year-old whose two children attend Texas A&M University. "I didn't go to A&M, but I understand why....

Were you aware that A&M produces more officers for the military than any institution outside the 3 official service acadamies?
First plane over Baghdad in Desert Storm was piloted by an Aggie.
WHAAAAAT????? More officers come out of the corp than any other school. Buzz off.
Largest pool of grads (ROTC) that join the USAF?
Last I heard, it was BYU, of all places. Must be the scholarships 'eh?
It's not odd. The University did ban it. However, the students and alumni wanted a safe one to continue on.
This is a bonfire not sanctioned by the university. They've hired engineers to help with safety. They are raising funds to support it.
As class of '84 Aggie, I think the students are doing it correctly.
They have put more men in uniform than the military academies.
They don't just pretend to be in the military. When they graduate, they become officers.
The military compares it to those.
Us Texans aint odd....well not much

I have lived in California for almost 20 years, but my blood is still maroon.
More Medal of Honor winners have originated from the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets than any other college or university or academy, except West Point. So you can see the error of your stupid statement.
Who is comparing the respective Corps? I was pointing out what seemed to be some sort of weird understanding on your part about "strange boys."
Besides... if all those "strange" kids graduate and earn commissions in the service, does it really matter where they come from?

You obviously have no knowledge of the Texas A&M military tradition, jimbo. But I guess that's the beauty of the internet; you have a forum in which to spout off in total ignorance. Enjoy...
