Not in Salem, north of Salem.
I know, but posted it there as a memory jogger in case it's arson.
The fire I posted is under inverstigation.
Are you series?
Very, waiting for the word on what caused it.
It appears to be a propane plant explosion.
What did it look look like when you were driving?
What's taking so long to find out, it's been over 40 minutes?
thank you, i put in 165 water street and i think i see where the propane tanks are/were. and yes, lots of houses around there. :(
That fire was Monday night. This one was about an hour ago.
I know.
I posted the fire on this thread as a memory jogger in case it's arson-related.
Please feel free to remove it if you so desire to.
To my right I could see a fireball expanding up into the
air. I was amazed how huge it was. Then a loud boom that sounded like fireworks. A couple miles up, I turned onto
Route 62 and over near the Danversport Yacht Club I could
see flames and smoke in the distance.
Now, if I had turned right onto Liberty St from Rt 62
it would have taken me there: it becomes Water St. (Rt 35).
The propane plant would have been on the left just before
it crosses a river (Waters River I think)
WBZ radio reporting several communities sending fire equipment, flames 30 to 40 yards high, some have been evacuated.
They say it was a propane plant explosion, but are still trying to confirm.
Caller from Peabody about 2 miles away "this house literally shook"..."saw enormous cloud of smoke. Sky was lit up so bright like it was daytime. Rattled windows. Sounded like a plane crashing into a building."
caller to WBZ in Georgetown could hear it--12 mi away!
"We've been getting phone calls from people all over the
North Shore"
"I didn't know if it was an earthquake or what..."
well I'm sure the local newscasts once they DO go on (4, 5, 7,
NECN, 25, 56 etc.) will have details.
Deb Lawlor, WBZ radio, felt the explosion 40 miles away!
"large fire which appears to be under control but appears to have done some damage"
WBZ Report of explosion being felt from 40 miles away.
bttt
just heard that too--they also say the propane plant may not be operating anymore but maybe they were in the process of
cleaning it up...also "chemical plant nearby". Check out the
map/Google view. Right across the street, right on the river.
It's either the Waters River or maybe the Crane or Porter
(I think they all merge to form the Danvers)
Explosion in Danvers
November 22, 2006 - 3:37AM
(Danvers, MASS - AP) - Police say there has been an explosion in Danvers.
They could not immediately provide further details.
WCVB TV reports that several homes in the area of Water Street are on fire.
WBZ AM radio says fire crews from several crews are on the scene of a propane gas facility.
The explosion at about 2:20 a-m could be felt several miles away.
It was about 2:45-2:50 am when I saw it--the big fireball/
loud sound.
