That is how I am thinking too. I said that in my last post, if they had even lived in it I would understand this better. But they didn't. I think it was a scam from the beginning. Did you see the video? That was just too much for me. The husband or whatever he is was a total moron in it. I posted the link to it.

Nearly 15 years ago, my wife and I gave away a car to a welfare mom to help get her started. I've always believed welfare recipients were unworthy of charity. My taxes already pay for them to get the best healthcare in the world, free rent, food and other things a "poor" person in almost any other country could only dream of getting.

Making it a legal loan would have prevented this.

The Church or charity didn't do their due diligence. Complete background check, etc. People like this prey on the goodness of others.

Maybe they will be on "Flip that House".
Since they brought it up, I have to wonder if they tithed on their profits? If they did I guess they did ok. If they didnt then they are the ones who need to take it up with God.

Don't bet on it. This is COGIC, they're Jerry Springer types. Whoever argues loudest and longest wins

It's very sad to see how these idiots scammed the very people who wanted to provide them help. Happens to the federal government (the idiots) to the tune of billions and billions of dollars every year.

It was a very nice house and she picked it out , thats why I really believe it was a scam from the get go. Shame on this couple. A family truly in need would have had the start of a new life there. Its very sad people do things like this.

Nearly four years ago, some friends of mine gave me the title to one of their cars.
Mine had broken down, for good, and I needed to borrow or rent a car to get to work, for another two weeks before I could juggle my paychecks enough to buy another one.
I did not ask them for help, they just offered to lend me a car, and I was very thankful for that, and could accept their help, because they trusted me to take care of their car.
I thought they were very kindly lending me their spare car for a week, and I was so very gratefull for that!
You can't imagine the weight it lifted off my shoulders to not to have to pay for a rental car to go to work, while saving a few hundred dollars for a down payment on a used car at a buy-here-pay-here car dealership.
When they handed me the keys and the title to an old but serviceable and clean station wagon, I cried.
They had never seen me cry, although they were close friends, and we had helped each other go through some very difficult situations, over the years.
And prior to that day, I know they thought they never would see any tears from me about anything, because they thought I was too proud to cry...
Never give anyone a handout!
But if the opportunity comes to give another a hand-up, do not hesitate to offer, unasked.
Sometimes, all it takes to make an indelible impact on someones life is a smile and a kind word.

Setting aside issues of fraud, there is nothing wrong whatsoever with selling a house given under such circumstances.

SHHHHHhhh!!
Wait until April 16, 2007 to report them to the IRS. A little time in the GrayBar Hotel will help them out, I'm sure.

Seems that there is quite a lot of this "take the money and run" attitude coming out of NOLA.. could it be a symptom of years of generational gov't handouts ?"

It's very sad to see how these idiots scammed the very people who wanted to provide them help.It was a nice thing for the church to do. But, anyone who did anything had to realize that most people who lived in NO loved it there, and would return to that environment if they could.
I wonder what ever happened to the NO evacuees who were accepted with open arms in Utah?
Point is, the help shouldn't be a prison sentence for these people. Free rent for a year or so in the new house might've made more sense.

Setting aside issues of fraud, there is nothing wrong whatsoever with selling a house given under such circumstances. It's not a question of what is legal, but what is moral.
