Not sure how I feel about McCain exactly, just thought it might be fun to reintroduce this into the conversation.
The conservative right needs to do two things for the 2008 elections: Win back congress, and win the presidency. When choosing the presidential candidate, the conservatives need to evaluate the positions of the candidates, and determine if, OVERALL, the positions are in tune with their own values. Throwing someone under a bus for one issue, is not a successful strategy. THEN, that candidate needs to pledge to support the basic platform issues, and not forget about them after being elected.
Retaking congress. This is extremely important because of the ability to approve judges, power of the purse, and ability to wage war. A huge loss of opportunity occured when the dems took congress. Who was driving the thing? Mehlman? Puhleez. Everyone got bottled up on Iraq and groping pages, and individual corruption. Therefore going forth, candidates must be above reproach, and a coherent policy on Iraq needs to be articulated. And this was where the failure lies.
