it's real normal to nurse at least a little up to age 3 or even older

Yeah. Real normal. Sure.

Mommy needs to let go.

It was very normal until the advent of the bottle....now it's considered bizarre.

How sad.

Yeah. Real normal. Sure.

Well, believe as you like, it's your right to do so. God knows I cherish my right to be an idiot, and I certainly practice it often enough...

You know, I think you're out of the loop on this one AP.

It is the world-wide norm to nurse babies until 2 or 3 in most of the rest of the world, and it was very common here until the advent of clean, reliable water supplies.

Not to breastfeed meant exposing the baby to unclean water via the formula. Infantile diarrhea was very serious and often fatal, and is still a big problem in the developing world, where formula is used without sterilized water.

Most people alive in the US today who are in their 80's were nursed that long - it was common. And they don't seem to have emotional problems.

You'd be surprised how many US kids are nursed till 2 or 3 - you just don't know about because most mothers don't make a big deal about it. My 3 all were, and they all seem just fine.

In fact, if in any way are they abnormal, it's been in the lack of problems we've had with them. They are normal loving kids, with narry a tattoo, nose ring, or out-of-wedlock birth among them. The oldest graduated highschool early and is often complimented about how mature she is.

We had a friend whose child had leukemia, and she nursed her daughter until she was 3 1/2. The doctors encouraged her because they knew the child would benefit from the comfort and nutrition since chemo takes a heavy toll on a baby/toddler.
