Geenstijl ^ | 11-20-2006 | Vik Franke

Posted on 11/21/2006 5:38:52 AM PST by Dutchguy

This (short) excerpt as linked in the source URL is part of a documentary made by the dutch journalist/film maker Vik Franke who lived embedded with the dutch special forces operating in Afghanistan for two months. These special forces are part of the 1600 dutch soldiers present in the afghan province of Uruzghan.

What you see is an ambush, following by incoming enemy fire from multiple directions. No friendly casualties occurred during this incident, the amount of enemy casualties is unknown.

Mostly FYI, and I wonder if you guys get comparable footage of your own men in enemy territory.

In the US, the news media seems to imbed with the terrorists.

Nah. They're too lazy for that: they just buy footage from terrorists and work as orifices through which terrorist propaganda passes.

You know, sort of like Goose rectums for jihad.

"Sweet crap, vet dikke respect voor deze bikkels!"

* Chuckle * That's how I remember the Dutch when I lived just across the border in Germany. I would hear this odd English-sounding throat-clearing language interspersed with unmistakable pithy American words and idioms. Somehow you knew EXACTLY what they were saying, even if you didn't understand a word of Dutch.

These soldiers were very cool and professional under pressure. Good job!

Not too much to see - looks like they took fire from two directions and returned fire. Not much hit and people still walking around during the fight.

Yeah I noticed. When I look at this video, I can feel nothing but pride at my fellow countrymen doing their jobs in these harsh circumstances.

But of course. They don't betray America, they merely pay people to do it for them; so much more sanitary that way.

But the sight of a cute Dutch woman with an FN-FAL just doesn't look right!

Please thank your countrymen for their support. The Netherlands (and the Danes) have contributed a disproportionate share of NATO's fighting strength in Afghanistan, while those European powers who pretend to leadership within the EU like France and Germany have done almost nothing (most of their troops stay safely out of combat).

I always thought Dutch beer was better than German beer anyway.

They used to have this blonde-haired, blue-eyed Medic chick last year in Kandahar that would bring conversation to halt when she walked into the South DFAC. Her DCU fit very nicely, thank you very much. She packed a Glock on her thigh. Lucky pistol.

True, if you expect gore or high-tech stuff you might be disappointed.. But it does give (me at least) a relatively good impression of what our guys are doing over there and what the circumstances are in which they have to work.

I've been reading this board for years and never had much urge or reason to post things, since it's mostly internal US news of which I'd like to stay informed. But nevertheless thanks for the warm welcome! :)

This is highly unusual. If I remember correctly, the Dutch are one of the NATO countries which agreed to send a contingent to Afghanistan only if they weren't sent to an active terrorist area and if they weren't required to go out after dark.
Maybe they got their orders wrong.

Hold on a minute, I like the Dutch as much as anyone, but lets not get crazy here. German beer is made my magic fairies and can not be duplicated by mere mortals! You have insulted the beer gods deeply and you should repent immediately!

Heh. My wife and I had an evening of free Dutch beer after telling the bartender that once in Amsterdam.

Nothing better than Oranjeboom fresh from the tap, IMHO.

Especially right out of the tap. I remember Leew most fondly. :-)

Welcome!

Freerepublic is like this joke.
An Irishman is walking down a street and he see a brawl of ten people going at it. He pulls one aside and says, "Is this a private fight, or can anyone join?"

The US over equips it's troops. Americans love stuff.
Thank you and any friends in the Dutch military.
This is going to be a long struggle. The communists were at least in theory based upon science and in a error filled way, interested in progress. The Koran makes Mein Kamph look like pure logic.
Holland has elections coming up soon, yes?
Holland has to shut down immigration/fake asylum. European countries are getting hosed, taken, ripped off and to injury to insult you get the Muslims.
