In a free market, capitalistic society, there is no such thing as price gouging.

The market determines price.

Take an economics class or check the sale ads in the newspaper. (rolling eyes)

Markets are anticipatory discounting mechanisms of price.

Manipulation would be occurring if, bar exogenous circumstance, the price of gasoline did not rise in anticipation of a period of higher-than-normal demand.
