Mechanical Problem Grounds Air Force One
POSTED: 7:48 pm EST November 19, 2006 HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam -- Air Force One has suffered a mechanical problem, forcing President George W. Bush to shift to a smaller backup jet as he continues his Asian trip.
The White House isn't specifying the problem that grounded the Boeing 747 which usually serves as the presidential aircraft. It happened in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam before the president was to fly to Jakarta, Indonesia.
The glitch left officials scrambling to accommodate dozens of traveling staffers. Most were getting seats on a press charter aircraft.
The White House is hopeful the 747 will be repaired before the next leg -- from Jakarta to Hawaii.

I don't like the sound of this at all. I am fearful of his presence in that part of the world with all the crazies over there.
It could also be a diversion... AF One is very big and very recognizable
They would, no doubt, feel right at home in Saigon.
Historically, has this ever happened before? Anyone know?
Somebody threw Helen Thomas into engine number two?
Is David Gregory along?
Maybe he plugged the toilet with his Tampon
They are talking about how dangerous Indonesia is - I'm not sure why he feels compelled to go there - the security staff cannot be happy about all those zealot Muslim loons there.
I was afraid something like this would happen.
I thought they had more than one of those Presidential 747's. Two anyway. I believe they are kept at Andrew's AFB outside of Washington DC (correct me if I am wrong!!). I wonder why they don't fly the second one over there, and use it as a backup?? It might be an 18 hour flight to get it over there, but I am sure it could "catch up" with President Bush in either Vietnam, or later in Jakarta.
Well said!!!!!!!!!
I'll ask him tomorrow why they wouldn't fly the second one over there but he's already asleep now. Maybe they don't want to advertise the fact that there are two planes?
Just a guess on my part.
I'm more concerned about the aircraft the President is riding in. AF-1 is specially built with special armament and stuff .. now I'm going to double up on my prayers because the threat level against the President has already been raised - and he's traveling right into the hornet's nest.
You can be in agreement with me: Father God, thank you for your promise of special protection. As it says in Isaiah 54:17 - NO weapon formed against our President or his family or his staff can prosper." Amen!
Planes are subject to mechanical problems, even Air Force One. I wouldn't read anything into it unless you have some other info indicating it's not a normal mechanical malfunction.
NPR says it's a tire problem. (maybe the NVM gov't boot a parking boot on one of the tires/wheels)
Problem fixed--CBS Radio News NYC 9:02 pm est.
Amen!
Thx.
Me 2, instant prayer sent for their safety and protection. May Our Dear Lord wrap a hedge of protection around Pres. Bush, Laura and their party until they safely return home.

I feel the same way and will be happy when he gets out of that hell hole.
Hopefully, It's just a minor problem with the bomb-rack.
TanSon Nhut. Been there...
