Look I am not against serving my country at all or a draft. However I think it has to be done differently then ever before. We have so many kids that have been on all kinds of medication, that have anger issues, depression etc. Not to mention the drug addicts. What does Rangel plan to do with kids like this in the draft?

What about the discipline of the military doing it's stuff? I still think Rangel is taking the easier-than-Bill-Cosby route. Military discipline may be the only thing to save a minority generation.

Well that might be a good idea. But what can you do with kids that have these addictions and mental problems that won't cost the taxpayers a fortune? Some of the kids that have passed thru my house over the years have had serious problems. I have taken in two boys that had really bad home issues and thank God now they are fine but had they not been taken in by someone and given love I don't even want to think of what they would be today. I think everyone should serve their county in some way, male or female. I think we should start with the ones who drop out of school and need some guidance that otherwise they will never get. And I am all for illegal Mexicans being the chance to serve this county in return for being a citizen. But the fact is who is going to screen all these people and who is going to pay for all the rehabilitation some will need? I do agree with what you said...Military discipline may be the only thing to save a minority generation. Somebody has to save some of them somehow.

It did little to save the 60's/early 70's minority generation who were drafted. I saw them first hand. The ones who were drafted who already had a solid grounding did well. Those who were crapweasels coming in were the same going out, same for a lot of the whites who were sent to duty by judges or who were drafted. Most of the latter category just came out being better versed in wielding a weapon in the commission of a crime. Discipline best benefits those who are willingly receptive to it from the start.
