I like Rangel and respect his service but he is not the reason I support the draft. I enlisted in 61. I served with draftees before, during and after Vietnam. I even trained some of the last draftees as a basic training company commander in 73/74. I know the GOP takes credit for getting rid of the draft but, imo, it was a knee-jerk, reactive appeasement to the Left.
