Election 2006: GOP suspects foul play in race (California State Senate)

Democrat grabs slim lead as phone-call accusations fly

Republican lawyers are investigating potential campaign fraud in the hotly contested 34th state Senate District race after Friday's ballot count pushed the Democratic candidate ahead by 783 votes.

Senate Republican leader Dick Ackerman said he suspects Democrats working on Lou Correa's campaign may have coordinated with an independent campaign committee to siphon off conservative Republican votes from GOP candidate Lynn Daucher.

Correa flatly denies the allegation, saying, "I had nothing to do with it."

Ackerman says party attorneys also are investigating who funded last-minute campaign phone calls that attacked Daucher, including one series of calls that inaccurately said she dropped out of the race.

"It's outrageous," Ackerman said Friday. "If you're going to campaign and win or lose on the issues, that's fine. But this type of conduct is disturbing, trying to defraud voters in an attempt to win the election."

More than 1,200 absentee and provisional ballots remain to be counted, a task expected to be completed before Thanksgiving.

At stake is the size of the Democratic majority in the Senate after an expensive campaign with a tab that could continue to escalate if a recount is requested. If the GOP's Daucher pulls out the win, Republicans would pick up a seat and trail Democrats 24-16 in the upper house.

In the Correa-Daucher contest, the same Democratic-oriented independent campaign committee spent $92,000 on behalf of GOP write-in candidate Otto Bade, arguing that he is a better representative of the Republican Party. Bade, a Santa Ana resident, unsuccessfully ran for the state Assembly in 2004. Bade had received 899 votes by the end of the day Friday -- more than the margin between Daucher and Correa. Bade could not be reached for comment.

"Democrats working on Lou Correa's campaign may have coordinated with an independent campaign committee to siphon off conservative Republican votes from GOP candidate Lynn Daucher. "

And apparently some consevatives obliged and fell for the Dem ploy.

The article goes on to say that some phony pro-gun and phony pro-life groups were contacting Republicans and saying that the Republican candidate was not good on guns and abortion, and they should write in some independent candidate. Now it turns out that these phony groups were fronts for the Dems, with the specific intent to diminish the votes the Republican candidate was getting. Surprise, surprise.

Some of us have been saying all along and there was plenty of evidence even before the election, that the Dems win strategy is exactly to get Republicans/conservatives to stay home or vote third party, and urged that all real conservatives and intelligent conservatives should vote for the Republican candidate.

The worst part is that no matter how many times this happens, some people never learn -- they fall for siren song of the DICCs (Democrats In Conservative Clothing), who urge them NOT to vote for the Republican candidates, bashing the Republicans, that "they are RINOs and not conservative enough", the result always helps the Dems and the votes are sometimes just enough to allow the Dems to eke out a victory over the Republicans, as in this case: the Republican lost to the Dem becaues conservatives wrote in a third party candidate, at the urging of phony conservatives.

Your inability to distinguish between Democrats sending bogus slate mailers and Republicans dissatisfied with the liberal infiltration of the GOP seems unending.

Perhaps you can go call this author a "DICC" too:

CA: The 2005 Arnold sure is missed, by Shawn Steel.
Or, why don't you go cheerlead with this "Republican" official who is "pleased" that McClintock and Pombo Lost:
CA: Hartman seeks GOP moderation (pleased McClintock and Pombo lost)

Just keep bashing conservatives FO. We expect no less from the "pragmatic" Teddy Kennedy wing of the CA GOP.

But, but, but the ilk say we're paranoid and delusional and that we should believe they're honest conservatives, just because they say so ...

Face it, FO, the main characteristic of the herd is stupidly following the bulls, faux-bulls, et-al. I wish the herd had enough brains to see how counterproductive the DICCs message is.

" distinguish between Democrats sending bogus slate mailers and Republicans dissatisfied with the liberal infiltration of the GOP "

Actually what really bothers you is that some of us CAN recognize phony conservatives on THIS board, who keep bashing Republicans, and actively working on defeating them, but are happy and content with Dems the like of Angelides, Pelosi, Murtha et al. It is very easy to recognize the he phony conservatives: they are the ones who constantly and viciously criticize Republicans, agitate voting against them, but NEVER criticize the Democrats.

Show me a single post you had that expressed that you were unhappy with the Dem takeover of the US Congress. There isn't one. Yet, you had thousands of posts bashing Arnold.

If the shoe fits, and all that.

It's always telling to see you lash out at those who stand up for conservatism and support the Republican platform. On the other hand, those who applaud the defeat of solid conservatives liike Pombo and McClintock generate nary a word of criticism from the "moderate" Kennedy wing of the party.

California Republicans are losing the battle by embracing the same ideology of the leftists--big government spending and enviro-whacko regulation that will destroy the economy. Liberalism knows no party, grunt. It has infested the GOP. Until such time as we get back to the platform, communicate and educate the electorate on why conservatism can and does work, and reject liberal policies no matter the source, we will continue to lose. Simply having an "R" next to a politician elected to office, when that politician espouses liberal principles and promotes liberal policies, is not "winning".

Conservatives are okay in my book. Demonratz in conservative clothing really suck, though. DICC advice is counterproductive to conservative victory. DICC goals are the complete defeat of all things conservative and republican. I think you full well know that.

I was certain that Ray Haynes was speaking directly to our resident, Republican liberals when Norm posted the article.

Ray's use of "the siren’s song" was most appropriate.

If moderation is so fantastic, why isn't there a moderate forum?

Election fraud committed in California?

More rabid Democrat tactics.

Around here, Dems ran an anonymous robo-phone call to every voter in the county claiming the GOP candidate, (which it slickly didn't name) had a problem like Foley.

Not to mention the fact that every GOP congressional candidate 'permanent' wooden campaign sign was sliced up with a razor, sledgehammered, or simply sawed off at the base.

The roadsign/lawn signs were ALL stolen twice, (off of main roads, not lawns)

What scum these Dems are.

In fact, I am still seething to the point I have vowed to fight these cretins with anything and everything it takes.

What was it Goldwater said, "Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice."
