The Yeager drawl isn't quite dead yet, fortunately.
Seems like it would be nice to have a traffic light system on the runways, where the ATC clearing a flight for takeoff would also have to click on an icon for the runway, which would produce a green light for the plane taking off, and flashing red lights at every crossing taxiway. Similar deal for landings: a landing plane would see green lights on the cleared runway, and reds would flash on all crossing taxiways
Ah, thanks for that. I should have assumed the animation showed GMT. Duh.
Thanks to all who replied, except for the TWA800 moonbat... I am so tired of dealing with the third grade science dropouts of that and the "9/11 Truth" industry.
I will waste a clue on that moron anyway: "this thread is not about your favourite imaginary X-Files plot. Kindly start your own thread."
Back to the subject at hand, the story RckyRaCoCo links says that the Atlas 747 was landing, not taxiing, and that the controllers made the error -- for what it's worth.
Bottom line, the system broke down here.
