Trauner decides against recount (Cubin wins in Wyoming)

CHEYENNE -- Democratic newcomer Gary Trauner decided Thursday not to seek a recount in his narrow loss to Republican Rep. Barbara Cubin in Wyoming's closest U.S. House race in 36 years.

"It is time to put this election to rest and look to the future," Trauner said in a statement released through his campaign. "Wyoming is counting on Mrs. Cubin to provide first-rate representation for all the people of the state, and I trust she will do so."

In a telephone interview, Trauner said he had not talked to Cubin and wasn't sure if he would.

"That's something I will think about," he said. "It's probably something between me and her if I do."

During the campaign Trauner complained that Cubin campaign ads misrepresented his stances on issues. In his statement Thursday and in other comments since the election, Trauner complained about the "negativity and animosity in our political process."

The State Canvassing Board on Wednesday certified the Nov. 7 election results, in which Cubin beat Trauner by 1,012 votes out of 193,369 cast.

The margin was too great to mandate an automatic recount. Trauner had until Friday to request a recount, which he would have had to pay for.

In other words, he's been trying for the last week and a half to get the state Democratic Party to give him the cash, and failed.

This Trauner is a New York liberal trying to sell himself as a moderate in Wyoming. He is a bad loser waiting for the canvas to try and pick up enough votes so the tax payer would pay for the recount. Cubin gained in the official canvas. He never called, conceded or wishing her well. He is a typical no class liberal.

Another GOP win which is totally ignored by the MSM who appeared suddenly interested in whom was going to be in Congress this time. Apparently, they are only interesting when Dems win these races. Once Nov 9th ended, they just stopped paying attention to the House races which we are sweeping. And these are races which won't be close next time so the MSM ought to get used to repeating the names of these GOP candidates.

If a NY liberal can come that close in WY then the western states are in play for 2008.

Cuban's scrap by had nothing to do with a NY Liberal. She would have had a cake walk had she not walked over to her opponent, and told him if he had not been in a Wheel Chair she would slap him,/ Just another one of the arrogant, self anointed Republican, who has been there 22 years with not one piece of helpful legislation to her credit. We should have gotten rid of a lot more RINOS like Senator Specter. They are just taking up space and breathing up air.

Wyoming obviously needs to limit legal immigration from the West Coast Blue States. Too many CA, WA, OR libs have fled to WY after fouling their own liberal nests, repeating the sad fate of VT and NH vis a vis NY and MA.

As often mentioned, I hope this will be Cubin's final term. There are a plethora of Republicans in Wyoming that could hold this seat without a problem.

Indeed, very true. One name that comes to mind for me is termed-out state Treasurer Cynthia Loomis.
