Vang Appeals Conviction In Hunter Deaths (WI deer hunters)

The man serving life prison sentences for murdering six deer hunters in northern Wisconsin in 2004 disagrees with his attorney that there are no grounds to appeal his convictions, authorities said Friday. Chai Soua Vang, 37, mailed eight pages of handwritten documents from a prison in Iowa to the state Court of Appeals responding to his attorney's conclusion about the case, deputy clerk Sheelah Guild said.

The attorney, assistant state public defender Patrick Donnelly, has 30 days to respond to Vang's document before the 3rd District Court of Appeals in Wausau considers the case, Guild said.

Earlier, Vang had requested an extension of time to file his response, telling the court he was attempting to retain another attorney to appeal the convictions, Guild said. Vang had until Tuesday to file his response with the new deadline, Guild said.

The fatal shootings occurred during the deer hunt in 2004 after a group of white hunters in Sawyer County confronted Vang over trespassing in a tree stand.

It still amazes me just how fast that jury came back with the guilty verdicts.....

No doubt. Kept us from agonizing over it for days. But when it's a slam-dunk case, well, there it is.

Actually, that trial was only a week long, wasn't it?

Lib SCOTUS ruling. It is considered part of "rehabiltation", in that inmates can use it to educate themselves on how to accomplish their future criminal goals, while only 'almost' committing a crime.

Same reason Mafia dons were required to learn accounting & tax law.

I still think they should just turn him lose in the woods where he killed those folks. Let the victims families take care of him in whatever way they want to.
I'd buy a ticket for that show.
