Yeah but Roberts came before Miers. Roberts is and will be the best darn Chief justice this country has ever seen. How you do explain that one then? Also, after Miers GW did not need to appoint Alito, he could have appointed someone else. He did not though. None of us knows what type of justice Miers would have been, except GW had a better understanding than any of us here and after him nominating Roberts, I tend to belived Miers would have been a conservative hawk on the court.

Sure, there was Roberts first. I guess my post should have said
Oh sure they did [have a SC plan], Roberts and Miers.
which would have made the point clearer.

Which I guess I'll have to spell out probably for some here - the idea that Miers is preferrable to Alito is ludicrous. There was no plan. The President simply didn't care enough.
