The truth is I want to get the Good News out,

Yes but will you get it out?

he may be drawn into a political arena by the weight of his own celebrity

It isn't just his celebrity that's packin' weight.

I am not a Rick Warren apologist. I know of him, however, I have not read any of his books or heard him speak. Having said that, let's not stand back her and cast stones at him as many did in yesterday's Rick Warren post.

I'll refrain from detailed comment, but I share the idea that the Good News should go out to all. Health people do not need a physician.

Look out, Jesse Jackson, here comes Rick Warren - and never mind little colored bracelets, Warrne has Hawaiian shirts!

I wonder at the pounding Warren is getting based solely on statements by Syria's government-run propaganda outlet. His people have vehemently denied almost everything the Syrians reported.

We are not so quick to believe our own media, why should we take anything from a totalitarian state's official propaganda organ at face value?

Sounds like he wants to be a celebrity more than anything, just another narcissist.

Warren is a good man. That being said, there are real problems with some of his beliefs and theology.

What did his Muslim neighbor say to him that prompted this trip? It certainly wasn't that Muslims don't believe in Jesus Christ as their Saviour for we all know that. So what made him go to Syria?

"There's a trend that religious figures - once they get a certain level of visibility and fame - seem to get pulled into politics," said Noll. "Warren is at this stage. The question is whether he is looking for new worlds to conquer."

Jesus said to peter eat of the snakes and lizards, aka preach to the gentiles, the unbelievers. So, if that's what this guy is doing, good for him, to assist in opening up missionary chances. What is everyone else doing on this thread to make a better world, besides getting finger callouses? I don't know this guy at all but, at first blush, cut him some slack.

Straddling the worlds of faith and diplomacy is nothing new for religious leaders. In 1977, Graham preached in communist Hungary

Graham preached in Hungary...did Warren preach in Syria? That's the question I'd like answered.

"I believe it is a mistake to not talk to nations considered hostile - isolation and silence has never solved conflict anywhere, whether between spouses or between nations," Warren said in the statement Ross released Thursday.

What an unintelligent narcissistic gasbag this guy is! Comparing marital issues to those of a terrorist-supporting, insurgent-supporting totalitarian regime. I wonder if he has ever heard the term "non sequitur." I guess if only we could send Rick Warren to all four corners of the world he can solve all of our problems. I wonder if, in breaking the silence, he asked Assad to stop sending terrorists into Iraq to kill our soldiers.

Here's the SANA story, including picture:

http://www.sana.org/eng/21/2006/11/12/84711.htm

He loves them so much he even gave them "a memorial drawing as a gift to the Syrian people for their generosity and hospitality, thanking their efforts exerted for maintaining peace and harmony."

I have huge doubts about a globe trotting new age "minister" playing international diplomacy with a country we could go to war with.

First Ted Haggard, of 30 million evangelical televangelist fame, now this guy.

I think some people get way too full of themselves.

In Warren's case, I seriously boubt he has devoted hours to study of true islam, like many on FR have.

Therefore he may believe the lie (taqqiyah) that islam is truly peaceful.

Why is "Islam" in the title of this thread? Syria is run by the Alawi, and they are simply not Moslems.

Why does everyone think they just have to get into the act? This is BS. Either stay home and preach or run for Congress or Hollywood.
