Lobbyists Who Lost Their Jobs When Republicans Last Took Congress Find New Opportunities

WASHINGTON -- When cable news channels projected that Democrats would win control of the House, the crowd roared at the party's official election-night party here.

California Rep. Nancy Pelosi was introduced as the first female speaker of the House. Mrs. Pelosi, in turn, drew an ovation when she referred to Nevada Democratic Sen. Harry Reid as the next Senate majority leader, even though it would take another day for the election results to become known.

Another winner that night was David Bolger, who exchanged high-fives with other Democrats, as the crowd applauded the party leaders. Mr. Bolger isn't a lawmaker or a congressional aide. He is a Democratic lobbyist.

After more than a decade of Republican rule in Washington, Democratic lobbyists have a lot to celebrate. Just a week after Election Day, they are getting promotions and signing up new clients...

Five years ago, Mr. Bolger was a victim of the K Street Project. After the 2000 election, the trade group where Mr. Bolger worked in the communications office, the U.S. Telecom Association, replaced its president, Democrat Roy Neel. Mr. Bolger lost his job in the change.

Now Democrats like Mr. Bolger, 44 years old, expect opportunities to pick up, as their effectiveness is likely to rise on Capitol Hill. The benefits from the change in the congressional majority will take months for Democratic lobbyists to chart. But already there are indications that ties to Democratic lawmakers are a valuable currency among those whose work will include lobbying the 110th Congress...

I think article is misleading. Something like 24 of 25 top lobbying groups in DC in 1994 were dominated by democrats. Now its even like it should be.

The only jobs the socialists ever create are the ones paid for by YOUR TAX DOLLARS, or ILLEGAL ones.

My guess is that Murtha will have a waiting room built for lobbyists outside his office...and he will have to hire an accountant to keep track of all the bribe money...

His new shingle reads...

** EASY-TOUCH LEGISLATION COMPANY - J. MURTHA, PROPRIETOR **

The fact that Dems are equal in lobbyists payouts should be national news. The MSM will never trumpet this because...well, well, well, the Repubs are the only ones who accept lobbyists dollars aren't they???

This is what's wrong with our political system. The highest bidder gets the most favors done in Washington. Yea, THAT'S listening to the American people. THAT'S working to correct the problems of everyday Americans and small-business owners.

Big lobbying dollars paid out by big corporations and other foundations to get legislative favors. AH, the American way.

If our government weren't so damn big and spending so much of our money, there would not be a need for so many lobbyists. Even the smallest companies and industries now have to have lobbyists just to keep from getting run over. Lots of money which could be going toward more productive business pursuits that actually create jobs and wealth is instead going to pay lobbyists. It's ridiculous.
