Greetings old FRiend.
i believe that the scriptures admonish us to:
With this particular guidance, i find it somewhat distressing that you appear [giving you the benefit of doubt] to have not critically examined Warren's works in light of Scripture. None the less, in answer to your querry, i provide the following examination of Warren's work, The Purpose Driven Life. http://www.svchapel.org/Resources/Articles/read_articles.asp?id=1
Let us know what you think of this evaluation. i believe that you will find it to be quite balanced.
Thank you, CDL. I wanted to let you know that I received your post and will be responding later. If I do not respond today then please remind me tomorrow.
Some light! Thank you for providing some light. While I have examined Warren's statement of faith, other online documents and his books, nobody has previously provided anything specific for me to examine.
We started a Bible study and used Warren's Purpose Driven Life book as a text. Three people gave their life to the Lord in that study. That was over a year ago and now they're just about ready to start their own Bible study. While I didn't care for all the different versions he used, I didn't really see a problem, especially with people giving their life to the Lord.
In the link you provided, that second paragraph is excellent. I often say the exact things on FR.
To better see from where I'm coming, albeit briefly, you might want to check out post 20 and 54 of this thread.
I just had to say that before I continue reading the link you provided.
I was thoroughly bewildered as to whom the author was trying to connect. If it is a book for the unsaved then he fails, for the gospel is never at anytime clearly presented. The closest he came was when he wrote, "Real life begins by committing yourself completely to Jesus Christ" (p. 58). In Warren's gospel no mention is made of sin, repentance or even the Cross. But that's not true. On the very page referenced, page 58, Warren states:
The Bible promises, "To all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God." Will you accept God's offer? From there Warren invites the reader to pray.First, believe. Believe God loves you and made you for this purposes, Believe you're not an accident. Believe you were made to last forever. Believe God has chosen you to have a relationship with Jesus, who died on the cross for you. Believe that no matter what you've done, God wants to forgive you.
Second, receive. Receive Jesus into your life as your Lord and Savior. Receive his forgiveness for your sins.
I hope we can agree the author, Gary E. Gilley, didn't accurately represent what Warren wrote on page 58. This was (and is) very easy to verify. I'll wait before moving on. Or maybe I'll go eat dinner!
