The Tamil people are originally of southern India Numbering about 57,000,000 in the late 20th century (including about 3,200,000 speakers in northern and eastern Sri Lanka). Tamil is the official language of the state of Tamil Nadu (Madras). Other Tamil speakers live in Sri Lanka, Myanmar (Burma), Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, eastern Africa, South Africa, and Guyana.
Tamil Tigers- a guerrilla organization that seeks to establish an independent Tamil state, Eelam, in northern and eastern Sri Lanka. (Encyclopedia britannica)
To say that the Tamil tigers are not Sihks or Hindus, (or Buddists) would be wrong. They are what ever the local majority is in the region.
In this area, southern India and Sri Lanka, they are either Sihk or Hindu, or possibly Buddists.
This is probably why they give the apppearance of being a religious group, because of they way they dress, which would be in keeping with their local beliefs.
The guy I chased a couple years ago (He was asking for donations in the park where I happened to be watching a millitary event) was dressed in traditional sihk garb.
Tamil Sikhs??
