Birth Certificate to Say Baby Has 2 Moms Nov 15 4:50 PM US/Eastern

By GEOFF MULVIHILL Associated Press Writer

MOUNT LAUREL, N.J.

Two women will be listed as parents on the birth certificate of a baby born this week in New Jersey, one of the first implications of a state Supreme Court ruling that gives same-sex couples access to the same rights as married couples.

The state and the women agreed in a closed family court proceeding Monday, the day before the child was born, that both women should be listed in light of the landmark high court ruling. A judge agreed with the state and the women, lawyers said.

In New Jersey, birth certificates are typically mailed to parents.

Assistant Attorney General Patrick DeAlmeida said the women are the first he knows of to take advantage of new rights granted by the Oct. 25 ruling.

The Burlington County women, who are registered as domestic partners, did not want their names made public, their attorney Stephen Hyland said.

Under state law, the husband of a woman who gives birth through artificial insemination is listed on the birth certificate as the father. No such provision is made for lesbian couples, who often go through lengthy and costly adoptions to give both women equal rights as parents.

I'd wager that most of the people voicing negative attitudes on this thread have little experience with gay folks or same sex parents -- however, they know they don't want to be exposed to it and that's a valid reason.

Perhaps. Perhaps others are actually very well educated on the subject and are very much interested in the growing ex-gay population.

So, I'll assume you have many gay friends you socialize or work with on a daily basis as well as those who are ex-gay?

You have no idea.

We do know science is quite hostile to the gay gene theory. What science does support is the environment is a major factor in determining homosexuality.

I gotta tell ya, I don't care if it's a gene or environment. As much as I can, I try to judge people as individuals -- try to see if the person standing in front of me has a good heart.

As I see it, you should care. You should care because everything tells us homosexual are confused about who they are, and who better to tell us this than ex-gays. I Do Exist.

You should care because the radical homosexuals push their agenda on today's youth. They try to blur the lines with: 'The New Gay Teenager'. That article should be enough to help anybody realize the dangers facing our youth today.

"faggot" and "dyke" are the commonly known descriptors of the deviant lifestyle of homosexuals. Now, if it's politically incorrect, then I guess I'm not in step with the "times" or the "liberal agenda", who want to always shape the dialog (such as "pro-choice" instead of the more accurate "abortion advocate" terminology).

While the sex deviates themselves have an agenda to eliminate the use of the common terms to identify them, which they feel is demeaning since they are trying to establish their lifestyle as "acceptable" and "entitled to dignity", their activity is depraved to any common sense individual and they are intent on destroying any oppostion to sexual deviance and perversion.

From Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network

(GLSEN):

OBJECTIVES:

·\tTo help students to reflect upon and critique their own understanding of the terms "faggot" and "dyke," and the way such terms are used by people in their school and community (including themselves)

·\tTo provide students with an historical, social and political context for the terms "faggot" and "dyke"

·\tTo help students in developing their writing and research skills through the task of keeping a "bias journal" in which they will document over the course of three days the number of times they hear "faggot," "dyke," and any other anti-LGBT slurs at school, and the responses they see and hear when such slurs are used

·\tTo support students in planning and implementing peer education tactics for reducing anti-LGBT language in school (e.g. poster or flyer campaigns)

·\tTo introduce students to the study of etymology and sociolinguistics (you may wish to define these terms for them)

As a city kid, I grew up pretty much surrounded by gay people. They were basically part of the landscape. Nobody ever tried to "recruit" me (though thinking back on it, maybe I should be somewhat insulted that they didn't.)

Also, I'd wage that the gay population outside of major urban areas is so limited that most teens never have contact with adult gays.

So is cancer, and we're trying to eliminate that sickness, also.

Well, it's not going to happen. Your world is far different from the world your parents grew up in, and the world your children inherit will far different than the one you know. Things change. Some of the changes we welcome and some of those changes cause anxiety.

That's a great idea....better than having them standing behind you, for sure.....

Sorry, I'm still stuck on why they didn't try to recruit me when I was young. Hey, I'm not a hideous looking guy. Some women find me attractive.

That made me smile.

Also, I'd wage that the gay population outside of major urban areas is so limited that most teens never have contact with adult gays.

Many teens are inside major urban areas and have contact with adult gays, GLSEN, pride parades, etc. Children are exposed in kindergarten and on up, and not just in major urban areas.

For the record, I see this as part of a larger issue: to what degree will urban areas set the tone of the nation? This is a relatively new issue ushered in by cable television, the internet and access to other forms of media.

I'm not sure if anyone has pointed this out but as an adopted person myself I can tell you that my adopted parents names are on my birth certificate. It provides no biological information (via names) at all. That's how it works with adoption and it's likely that mom # 2 adopted the child.
