Congressman Kucinich called Wednesday for cutting off funding of the Iraq war, as the surest way out of Iraq. His statements were made in an interview by Democracy Now!'s Amy Goodman.
"I want to say that there's one solution here, and it's not to engage in a debate with the President, who has taken us down a path of disaster in Iraq, but it's for Congress to assume the full power that it has under the Constitution to cut off funds. We don't need to keep indulging in this debate about what to do, because as long as we keep temporizing, the situation gets worse in Iraq.
"We have to determine that the time has come to cut off funds. Theres enough money in the pipeline to achieve the orderly withdrawal that Senator McGovern is talking about. But cut off funds, we must. That's the ultimate power of the Congress, the power of the purse. That's how we'll end this war, and thats the only way were going to end this war.
"We need to shift our direction."
"We have to take a whole new approach. Were spending over $400 billion a year, money that's also needed for healthcare, for education, for job creation, for seniors. We have to take a new look at this. We need to be a strong country, but strength isn't only military. Strength is also the economic strength of the people, their chance to have good neighborhoods. We spend more money than all the countries of the world put together for the military.
"It's time for us to start to shift our vision about who we are as a nation, because if we don't do that -- were borrowing money right now to wage the war in Iraq. Were borrowing money from China. Were not looking at our trade deficit. Were not looking at conditions, where people are going bankrupt trying to pay their hospital bills. We need to shift our direction, and the direction has to be away from the continued militarization of the United States society."
Kucinich was actually my favorite of the 9 dwarves in the 2004 election. He put Cinncinatti into bankruptcy and when he ran for president in 2004, he said he was very proud of it.
Yes... but somehow there are still people out there supporting him.
A few years back we got a Christmas letter from some acquaintances. The bulk of it told how proud they were to work for the Kucinich campaign, and when that fizzled, how proud they were to work for Howard Dean.
There's just no way to figure out some people. :-) At least we only see them rarely.
"I saw Kucinich on O'Reilly a few days ago. He was arguing that the liberals are now in the center."
He's right. They are.
Conservative = Conservative
Republican & Democrat = Liberal
Liberal = Flaming Marxist.
This is the ideological makeup of our country. The Democrat leadership are the Flaming Marxists and the RINO's and Dem Moderates are Liberals.
Of course they feel betrayed...and so do the families.
It's out there now.
The "lame-duck" 109th Congress should call for, and vote on, a resolution calling for either remaining involved in Iraq until the situation is satisfactorily resolved, or get out altogether, right now.
Same thing on reinstituting the military draft.
That guy is such a little weenie, maybe we could just give him to the muzzies.
In THE LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE even a dispicable little turd like this has a right to voice an opinion.
I'm probably not the first, but I'll still offer to 'cut Kucinich' instead of the military funding.
...There is a cut off needed but, it's Kucinich's head.
That is the best way of killing snakes.
Gutless! Don't just call for it Dennis, get the legislation proposed right now.
Why wait?? If we're going to cut and run, then do it!! Do it now!!
House representatives Charles Rangel of New York, and Ernest Hollings of South Carolina, both Democrats, introduced Bill 89 and House Resolution 163 in 2003, to re-instate the draft, and then tried to lay the blame at President Bushs feet recently. The bill lost all steam (not even a little puff )by an overwhelming defeat of 402-2. Rangel after being instrumental in helping to draw up the draft proposal voted against his own bill.
Personally, I am NOT interested in resurrecting the draft. I did not want people next to me who didn't want to be there when I was in the Army. I doubt anyone serving today would, either.
He can say it all he wants. That's just more ammo for the Right. What concerns me more is the potential for it actually happening.
Dear Jacka** Congressman,It is because of our Military we have good neighborhoods and a strong economy(dow at 12000+ idiot). This guy put Cleveland in default while he was Mayor. WHY DOES HE GET FACETIME? He's a moron!
You tell him!
This fool is no longer a joke, he is dangerous now!
Ah, yes, and that money can be TAKEN from those who EARNED it, and doled out for votes by only YOU SOCIALISTS, who know what's good for us....."for the common good", as you say.....
You are a worthless piece of crap, Dennis...
I can't begin to describe how ridiculous this statement is. I suppose we can fight off potential terrorists or foreign ivaders by stunning them with our opulent homes, then beating them with Bloomingdales shopping bags.
Many voters are either Morons, didn't believe what Bush was saying on the campaign, or simply are selfish and don't care that hundreds of thousand died at the hand of Saddam and IT WAS a noble cause to get rid of him. None bodes well for the future of this country.
