Monopoly of the left (Ted Kennedy Smack Down)
Waterbury Republican-American ^ | November 15, 2006 | Editorial

Posted on 11/15/2006 12:03:45 PM PST by Graybeard58

The Connecticut Republican Party has one foot in the political morgue, but it's the picture of health compared with its counterpart in Massachusetts. Connecticut Democrats now have veto-proof super-majorities in both legislative houses, and control the four constitutional offices. They hold five of seven seats in the U.S. House and Senate (most likely six, pending a recount in the 2nd District), and the lone surviving GOP congressman, Rep. Christopher Shays, will never be mistaken for a Reagan Republican. Only Gov. M. Jodi Rell's victory on Nov. 7 preserves what passes for two-party rule at the Capitol.

Compare that with the monopoly in Massachusetts, a state famous for re-electing Ted Kennedy seven times since he stuffed Mary Jo Kopechne into Davy Jones' Locker. Come January, Democrats will hold the governor's mansion, all six constitutional offices and all 12 congressional seats, and enjoy 7-1 legislative majorities. Republicans are so enfeebled that they did not contest 130 of 200 legislative and seven of 10 congressional races, and fielded fewer candidates for statewide offices than the Green-Rainbow Party, The Boston Globe reported.

Where Republicans in Connecticut and Massachusetts have gone wrong is in offering voters weak alternatives. Why should voters elect a Republican who talks and votes like a Democrat when they can elect a real Democrat?

Unless Republicans want to be fitted for political body bags, they need to rediscover the conservative principles that once made them such an appealing and real alternative.

How sad - they could not find one good person to run?

Who cares about these pip squeak states? They are doomed because they are socialists and are to dumb to know how to govern. You shall know them by their fruits: the swimmer, the gigolo, and the rest of that disgusting crowd of elitists...

LOL!!! Yeah, right.

People vote Democrat because the Republicans running aren't conservative enough. LOL! Just saying that makes me laugh. "This steak isn't done to my liking so I will be having a plate of cow dung, instead". Classic.

Democrats win in those states because the constituency has become a bunch of socialists. Plain and simple.

I'm starting a new business next year. Think I'll be looking for plant space in MA or CT? These political environments have repercussions.

IMO, the MA Republican party isn't looking for good people to run, if by "good" you mean conservative. They seem to be allergic to actual conservatives, preferring what they like to think of as "fiscally conservative, socially liberal." I saw an article a few years ago (I think it was in National Review) about Bill Weld, former "Republican" governor of MA, arguing that there's no such thing -- the social liberalism makes too many inroads in the so-called fiscal conservativism.

The most conservative governor I recall here (and it was about 30 years ago) was a Dem (who later "converted").

That's why Schlesinger never stood a chance.

The people who live in those "pip squeak" states care. Calling every single voter in pip squeak states socialists is a bit much. For example, North Dakota keeps re-electing the same two bozo's over and over again, because they've figured out how to bring the bacon home to their constituents. Same thing in West Virginia. I think the only contest Byrd will lose out on is immortality.

Doomed? Maybe. That's why they rush to spread the joy to neighboring states and other areas.

And, well, here in PA, I care. The same union-dem lovefest that at least Mass state enjoys, is here. And the long held notion that what goes in California and Massachusetts soon goes to NY and PA follows (often blindly) is proving more true than ever. Rendell wishes he could run with the big dogs, Kerry and Kennedy, Schumer. Now that he's delivered (Murtha still in, Santorum out) I think it gets even worse for us here. He pushed through his unpopular slots initiative and can't wait to raise taxes (gas already) and challenge gun laws and marriage. Those are on the table in the next few years. The same monopoly that CT and MA enjoy is already pretty much in place in Rendell's homebase of Philly, he just can't wait to spread the joy to the rest of us.

The "pip squeak" states have two U.S.Senators each. The same as whatever you would define the non pip squeak states, as having.

Heres the real problem:

The citizens of these states keep electing liberal governments and get what they ask for. They experience economic and social decline which then emboldens the government to ask for even more power and money in order to fix the problems they just created. Eventually the citizens start to look around and say 'I don't want this anymore' and move to another state. Then they turn around and elect the same type of people that ruined the state they just fled.
Here in Colorado, which is now a midly blue state, we have tons of Californians that fled the high taxes, crime and regulations of that state and have now voted into the Colorado State Senate, House and Governorship big time libs. So now we are going to get the joys of Big government and it's problems thanx to the Californian exodus. It driven up my property value, but it has cost me alot more politically.

LOL until I remembered we were talking about a human being left to die so Teddy Kennedy could salvage his career...why can Democrats kill specific people like Mary Jo Kopechne, move inconvenient corpses to parks like Hillary's lawyer pal and leave them there with their car and no car keys, and even immolate and gas American children like Bill Clinton and Janet Reno did at Waco...and the media cover up the stories...the media is a state-run machine of the DNC IMHO...they seem to hate war but love murderers and scoundrels.

Okay, but Massachusetts has had Republican governors for 16 years. Maybe not some people's idea of Republican, but voters knew enough to keep the Democrats out of the corner office (even though they own the rest of the State House). And that changed this month.

It's a big thing in the state. If Romney had run again, he would almost certainly have won, but he didn't. So now things are going to change, and it's back to the Dukakis era for Massachusetts.

The situation this year was a little like what it was four years ago. Paul Celucci left to become Ambassdor to Canada, and his Lieutenant Governor Jane Swift took over. The perception was that she wasn't up to the job and couldn't win, so she stepped aside for Mitt who could. No such luck this time around.

This doesn't bode well for Mitt's Presidential campaign. He wasn't a bad governor, but one could make the case that -- like Weld and Celucci -- he was easily distracted by national politics.

Same thing here in Arizona. The libs have been flooding in here not only from California, but northeastern states as well. I think we're going to have to get tough and stop trying to be so nice to them.
