He's divorced; unclean. Christ would never approve of him running. /s?
Hmmmm...that's funny. As a social conservative, I've been saying since November 8th that we need Newt in a position of power in the Republican Party. But thank you for correcting this error. I now see that I must view him as unclean, since its impossible for us social conservatives to support someone when they don't ascribe to our own personal agendas.
Right?
I'm as socially conservative as they come. He is no longer acceptable for an Elder position in a church, but he can still be the president just fine.
We're hiring the guy to kill jihadis, not a marriage counselor.
I can bet that there will be plenty of D-I-V-O-R-C-E-D in heaven. I will be one of them! :) Now my exhusband... that is another story!
That's dumb and wrong. I'm as socially conservative as anyone and I want Newt front and center. I think he'd be better at advising Congressional Republicans on how to win in '08 but if the choise for the nomination were between him and rudy or McCain I'd vote for Newt in a second.
Its not so much hes divorced that makes him look bad. Its that his wife was dying that does it.
I am a social conservative. Stop being so ignorant and condescending.
He's divorced; unclean. Christ would never approve of him running
REAGAN WAS DIVORCED TOO
WHAT???????? Who are we to judge anyone in that manner.
Yeah, that bothers me too. So many who are professed followers of Christ find it so hard to abide His command to "Judge not...".
Matthew 18Sounds to me like he wasn't kidding.23 ¶ Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.
24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.
25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.
28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.
29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.
31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.
32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:
33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?
34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.
35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.
Your allegation is without base. Reagan was divorced, and many social conservatives voted for him. My concern for Newt is that he address (1) his work as Speaker in which he presided over a very poorly run 1998 campaign which let Clinton off the hook; and (2) his difficult personal life, well beyond his divorce.
I would never describe anyone as unclean, because with Christ all can be clean.
I should also add that I don't demand that my candidate be a professed Christian to gain my vote.
