Now that the 2006 midterm elections have almost all been decided, political observers are turning their attention toward the presidential sweepstakes in 2008. It will be the first race since 1952 that doesnt have an incumbent president seeking re-election or vice-president looking for a promotion, leaving the field in both parties wide open. Hillary Clinton, John Edwards and John Kerry top the list of about a dozen Democrats considering a White House run and Mitt Romney, John McCain and Rudy Giuliani are the names most frequently talked about for the Republican nomination.
With the official end of the 1994 Republican Revolution coming just a week ago, some have been openly wondering if the architect of the Contract With America will return to the political stage to once again lead the conservative movement with a bid for the White House. After attending an event with Newt Gingrich last night, it appears that the former House Speaker is not running for president - hes waiting to be asked to serve.
Gingrich was interviewed by a restrained Chris Matthews and revealed the depth and breadth of his knowledge of American history. Gingrich, once a college professor, lectured the audience about how leaders like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt might deal with todays problems and political environment. Woven into his responses to the over-matched talk show host, was an unmistakable affirmation of conservative principles that were abandoned by the Republican Congressional leadership just deposed.
More striking was Gingrichs outlook for the upcoming presidential campaigns. He suggested that the current lack of effective leadership in both parties is the result of negative campaigns that appeal to the lowest common denominator. Gingrich believes that real leaders will emerge when things get bad enough for Americans to stop responding to the politics of personal destruction and seek candidates with a strong, defined, inspirational message. The underlying premise is that those who seek power will be turned aside in favor of someone who seeks to lead a nation.
It is clear that Gingrich believes he is such a man, as do I. Hes not running for anything, but it seems that he is waiting for his country to call.
You are right. My aim was a little too broad. However, read post #85 to me and it explains what I was trying to convey.
My appologies.
If what you say is true, then I am with you. Being a member of his Church doesn't guarantee my vote either. :)
So you judged him "unclean"? How much does he have to pay for his life? He lost almost everything! He lost his position (Clinton operative exposed him). He lost his reputation.
He spent years rehabbing himself. Worked for several years to repay. He believes in America. He believes in people. He is definitely not like Teddy Kennedy or of that ilk.
Does forgiveness mean anything to you?
When your "baggage" is put on display, make sure theirs is sitting next to it. When they mention you divorcing your wife, you mention their drowning of their girlfriend. When they tie you to a lobbyist, you tie them to communist China. If you have the b@lls to fight back they will cease fire. Acquiescing to their attacks only makes them bolder.
BRAVO!
Unless I recently suffered a sharp blow to the head, that's pretty much what I said in the message to which you replied.
The "baggage" then becomes the focus and baggage vs. baggage, as we found out, results in our loss.
The MSM provides more amplification to their side, afterall.
So rather than give the opposition a built-in weapon (i.e., Newts baggage) why not see if a less-complex candidate (i.e., less or no baggage) emerges, but use Newt-the-street-fighter as the coach?

You know, you sound like a democrat....its ok to do whatever, cheat on your wife, cheat on your husband, steal, lie, whatever you want to do, and you'll be forgiven....do you possibly think that this crap mentality started with the dirty klintons???? Yes I think it did....
Do I want to be grouped with them??? NO NO NO NO NO NO....
Now that you understand that part...hummmmmm....here's another part for you to try to understand....
IF and ONLY IF you make an HONEST mistake, then maybe you should be forgiven, BUT he didn't make an HONEST mistake did he???? NO NO NO NO NO NO NO....ask his x-wife what 'honest mistake' he made....
NO NO NO NO NO NO I won't forgive someone that will be representing me in office, just ask Rep. Don Sherwood, of PA. what happened to him with his 'honest mistake' he isn't in office anymore is he?????
You want a bj klinton, then fine, more power to you, idolize the slime ball, but not I.....!!!
Oh? And were those Paul pronounced accursed honored? Were those John said should not receive even a greeting honored?
I think Newt is the most qualified candidate but the dems and the MSM would trash him and he would not able to defend himself. Newt tries to respond to scurrilous attacks intellectually, and that never works.
It's because she's a 'Rat, and no one in the 'Rat party cares about that kind of stuff. Republicans, on the other hand, have the more conscientious folks who care about family values, and Newt would go over with them like a wet dish rag. It's a real difference in philosophies and ideologies, and the fact is that our candidates have to live to higher standards than the 'Rats to get elected.
I guess you don't believe in forgiveness at all.
Whatever
I'm OK with that should one emerge. What I'm not OK with is getting stuck with some no-name bland RINO who has no baggage and no chance. Besides, even if our guy is squeaky clean the DBM will trash him/her.
My whole point is that of all the names currently mentioned, Newt is by far the best candidate (assuming there were no baggage). If the perceived baggage is the issue, my plan could be invoked to counter it.
Well, a lot can happen between now and the '08 primarys.
What's that Chinese curse? "May you live in interesting times."
Regrettably, we are.....

All from memory on the fly but I would really like for you to type out the corrections instead of just saying I am incorrect.
As I posted above I would vote for him again, but many will say he has Feet-of-Clay so, if you can reveal they are actually burnished Bronze please do!
Newt wating to be called? Quick, someone cut the line.
You're forgiven. I know some Christians reported on FR have said they wouldn't vote for him but I think it was mostly because he's a RINO. M
Re: Wright from Wiki - The incident itself was controversial and was a part of the increasing partisan infighting that has plagued the Congress ever since. The original charges were filed by Newt Gingrich in 1988 and their effect propelled Mr. Gingrich's own career advancement to Minority Whip and, seven years later, to the Speaker's chair itself.
...and her name is spelled Marianne, but she was really nice to me when I had a chance to chat with her for a while at a rally while Newt was glad-handing.
He's divorced; unclean. Christ would never approve of him running
REAGAN WAS DIVORCED TOO
