And I guess everyone who finds the "baggage" unacceptable is a perfect human being by comparison?

I have no illusions that the man cannot get a fair shake, and certainly will not get past the God, Guns and Gays coalition on the Right. I don't have a dog in this fight, in this regard.

However, it becomes more and more apparent on a daily basis that this party is ultimately doomed because it fails to accept new ideas and people, and insists on enforcing a strict morality in which people are rejected by a relative minority of thought.

You might not agree with Rudy's views, but does that mean we have to be deprived of hearing what he has to say? Most of what has been written thus far on the subject is aimed precisely at shutting him up before he "infects" the rest of the party.

The party is doomed if Bush signs an Amnesty of any sort because it will set off a tremendous migration from the south many times larger than we have seen thus far of instant Democrat voters. Otherwise the Republican Party will certainly be hurt by adopting the policies of the far left of the Democrat party. Why vote for a closet Democrat when you can vote for the real thing? Or why bother to vote when both candidates are Democrats, with one of them calling himself a Republican so he can run. Rudy might well make a good AJ or SecDef. Your bitterness at the unfairness of it all (a true Democrat trait, that Unfairness plaint)will not alter reality, Giuliani will not get the Christian vote or the vote of people who value the 2nd Amendment and non insane social arrangements.

I'd love to hear what he has to say, but I'm not optimistic he's going to convince me of anything. Ignoring his personal life temporarily, there are some MAJOR issues that, if I think I understand where he is, I disaggree with him on. Fundamental issues that are why I vote Republican. I'll wait to hear what he says on that, though. Maybe I'll be suprised by what he has to say. I will never happily vote for someone who is pro-choice or pro gun control over someone who is not.

If it goes down to McCain v. Giulianni, it'll be a tough decision. There's GOTTA be someone else out there besides these two. I don't know anything about Romney yet to have an opinion.
