The president, vice president, and some Cabinet members met with CEOs of US auto manufacturers. Video and text here.

He also met with Senator Mel Martinez, R-FL, who was recently named to be the new head of the Republican National Committee.

Stocks rallied, the Dow-Jones Industrial Average hit a record high today. The S&P ended at its highest point since November 2000. Oil and gold prices slipped. The NASDAQ ended at its highest point since February 2001.

QUOTE: "We've had a fascinating discussion about a lot of major issues that we share in common. ... We talked about our mutual desire to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Obviously, as these automobile manufacturers begin to incorporate new technologies that will enable us to power our cars in different ways, it will make it easier for me to be able to tell the American people we're using less foreign oil. And that's in our economic interests, as well as in our national security interests."

I'm happy to say there aren't any new photos of bubba j. with our president, but on the other hand, there aren't very many cool photos of W, either.

So Miss Beazley makes an appearance.

I'm really disappointed about Mel Martinez being RNC chair. It makes no sense whatsoever.

Here's the link -- and if you type "Martinez" into the FR Search window and sort by Title/Date, there are some other interesting articles. I still am trying to sort through it all.

Yes. It's still disappointing to me. Michael Steele said he was interested in it. He would have been a much better choice. Mel Martinez has no charisma, no energy, no enthusiasm. Disappointing.
