BAGHDAD, Nov. 14 -- Armed men in Iraqi police uniforms and driving police vehicles kidnapped as many as 150 people from a government agency on Tuesday, and several senior police commanders were arrested in connection with the abductions, Iraqi officials said today.
The abductions were a well-orchestrated reminder of how challenging basic security remains in Iraq at a time when U.S. officials are pressing the local government to assert more control
Precise figures on how many people were kidnapped and how many were later released were hard to come by. The prime minister's office said more than 50 people were kidnapped and 20 later released. The Interior Ministry said 30 people were kidnapped and the Ministry of Higher Education said it was as many as 150 employees and visitors who were abducted.

I am beginning to be a bigger fan of the three state solution. Kurdistan, Shia South, and a Sunni region. All oil revenue to be put in an escrow account, and divided up by population to each seperate region. Or something.
They obviously can't live with each other. It's like being a cop trying to break up the Hatfield and McCoys or something. This might be a pointless gesture if they decide killing, torturing, kidnapping are more fun to do than oh being a policeman and upholding the law.
What do they get paid in comparison with normal Iraqi citizens? It seems they are easily bribed.

Thats the not so secret secret of Liberalism... they want out of Iraq because they want us to lose the war there, no matter what the consequences may be in the future. If it means the utter slaughter of the Iraqi people they don't give a damn... as long as the USA gets a black eye. For all of their 'concern for civilians', they are perfectly willing to let tens of thousands of them be slaughtered if it means humiliating the USA.
The incidence of kidnapping-for-profit in Iraq is not exactly a rarity.
The one thing I don't get is that these people risk getting killed by joining the police. Continually, they stand in line and get killed by suicide bombers, and now that they are cops, they get into the kidnapping and murder game themselves?
It's freaking depressing. Liberals of course will blame the President and Rummy for the fact that these people are acting like barbarians. If there is fault, it was us believing they would act grateful to be free, and behave like civilized human beings. Apparently we were wrong.

The Iraqi police are worthless, the Iraqi government is worthless, but the Iraqi Army is not worthless.
The Iraqi Army is the only institution with the power to save Iraq.

The US has since Saddam's fall intentionally built a weak Iraqi Army, the Pentagon had pre-war Japan as a model. That must change now.
The Madhi Army uses the millions it makes from kidnappings and gives a percentage back to the low class Shia on the streets, that is why their organization is so popular amoung the vast pool of poor Shia living in slums.
Basically, Sadr has been robbing from the rich to give to himself and the poor.

And they whizzed past check points that normally stop everyone.
Could this have been some sort of sting? Because they sure caught a lot of traitors because of it.
