and I'm curious - why did the stay-at-home voters stay at home? Here at FR I hear that a Democratic majority in the Senate is a terrible thing - yet I am also hearing that there was an urging to stay at home. I mean this sincerely - why?

You'd have to ask them. Check out threads on Guiliani or McCain.

Media constantly harping on Republican "scandal" whether real or trumped up, while ignoring democrat scandal. The impression that the Republican Congress did nothing which was due in part to McCains gang of fourteen. Republicans moving too far left. I know, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to whine about Republicans moving too far left, then helping to put in radical lefties just to prove a point.
