Giuliani has been carefully preparing for this moment. He spent the past election season accumulating a reservoir of good will among Republicans, campaigning hard for Republican candidates from Oregon to New Hampshire. He was particularly adept at raising money for those candidates and has established himself as one of few presidential hopefuls capable of raising the $100 million or so that is seen as necessary to win the White House. At the moment, he is getting help from Anne Dickerson, who ran President Bush’s highly successful Pioneer and Ranger fundraising machine in 2004.
Giuliani has allied closely with Bush & Co. He made a high profile speech at the 2004 Republican National Convention and has gone on the road to stump with President Bush. There has also been speculation, started by the Washington Post's Kathleen Parker, that Ken Mehlman, the outgoing Republican National Committee chairman and former Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign manager, will be joining the Giuliani camp.

I really like him and I think he can win. But first he has to get the nomination.

The country doesn't want a true conservative, we've seen that. They won't vote for a far-right republican.

What is a true conservative ?? Reagan was not a PURE conservative. He conducted an amnesty for illegal Mexicans and spent alot to get compromises for his agendas.
But he was a staunch American patriot, very pro-Constitution, pro-military and strong defense, pro-small government.
Rudy does not hold a candle to the likes of Reagan, who again, was not a far-right Republican. Newt is much closer, especially in experience and conservatism.
IIRC, you can carry in NYC but you must have a license. I think that was the rule when Rudy was mayor.

Rudy can get around the 2nd amendment issue easily if he were to explain that he was for gun control in NYC at a time when it was the crime capital of the world. By the time he was done, it was one of the safest cities in the world.
I lived in the City from the 70's to the 90's and I can tell you that Rudy solved problems that many New Yorkers thought were insoluble.

Amnesty for Illegal aliens - Rudy's stance on Immigration and what he has said on November 13th, 2006: "Secure the borders,” said Rudy Giuliani when asked about the nation’s illegal immigration problems in Wilkes-Barre Sunday night. While calling for strong measures to secure the borders, the highly acclaimed former mayor of New York City said it is also important that a solution be reached that would prevent illegals presently in the country from going underground and becoming a serious threat to the welfare of the United States. He does not oppose people entering the county legally."
As far as Abortion and Partial Birth- we have yet to hear from Rudy on that one.
All points add to the whole. And the fact is that Giuliani is a liberal. You can choose to ignore it if you wish. I won't and I will keep educating others to the fact that he is, without question, a liberal.
Rudy cut taxes and welfare roles in NYC significantly.

True. He does have to get the nomination. It will be fun to watch him against McCain. I want to see the sparks fly!
The other thing about Rudy that people haven't mentioned much is his effect on the Italian vote and the Catholic vote. These are two pretty big and important constiutincies, particularly in blue states that have a lot of electoral votes like NY, NJ, CT, MI, WI, PA and CA.
If he can win them decisively, and there's A LOT of Italians who would love to have the first Italian President, that would help him greatly.
I don't know if the Catholic thing is that big of a deal as it didn't help Kerry that much, but he did win ALL of the states with the big Catholic populations that I mentioned above. If Rudy can win even 2 or 3 of those states, and hold the red states, even lose 1 or 2(OH and MO are going to be very tough in 08), he'll be ok.
The plain truth right now is that 2 years out there is no real conservative candidate that's viable. Duncan Hunter? Maybe, but it's way too early for him at this point. Jeb Bush isn't running(and would have no shot if he did). Newt has even less of a shot than Jeb. Brownback has less of a shot than Newt. Santorum is a pipe dream. He was a 2 term Senator and got blown out against a state auditor who himslef got drubbed 4 years prior in the Governor's race and people think he's a viable national candidate?
At this point, it's between McCain, Rudy and Romney. Those are the big 3 until a solid conservative enters the fray.
I think Rudy's strategy would be to perhaps steal NH or IA. At least be respectable in the South, and then clean up and bring it home in the big states like NY, PA, CA, FL, MI, IL, etc...
I also think that before the primaries start we will see W throw his support behind someone and that could end up being big.
I agree and disagree. I don't like Newt working with Hillary on Health Care and one of the last lines in his plan is awfully similary to Romney's plan in Mass... anyone making over 50K would be manditory to have Health Insurance. That is pretty socialistic from someone as brilliant as Newt and I'd want to know more about this before making my final decision.

Reagan was a liberal Democrat in the 1930`s. With the onset of WWII Reagan started transforming into a conservative Democrat. He supported and voted for Eisenhower in 1952 and 1956, along with Nixon in 1960. By 1962 Reagan was a conservative Republican.
Rudy has always been and will always be a liberal.
