Giuliani has been carefully preparing for this moment. He spent the past election season accumulating a reservoir of good will among Republicans, campaigning hard for Republican candidates from Oregon to New Hampshire. He was particularly adept at raising money for those candidates and has established himself as one of few presidential hopefuls capable of raising the $100 million or so that is seen as necessary to win the White House. At the moment, he is getting help from Anne Dickerson, who ran President Bushs highly successful Pioneer and Ranger fundraising machine in 2004.
Giuliani has allied closely with Bush & Co. He made a high profile speech at the 2004 Republican National Convention and has gone on the road to stump with President Bush. There has also been speculation, started by the Washington Post's Kathleen Parker, that Ken Mehlman, the outgoing Republican National Committee chairman and former Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign manager, will be joining the Giuliani camp.

Ditto. Anyone thinks that gun owners would vote for a guy that would make them criminals is nuts. The guy doesn't believe in freedom and liberty. He's a petty country club tyrant.
I respectfully disagree. A great leader must also be a great communicator.
I do not understand how people here cannot understand that if the GOP continues to alienate the moderate wing of the base, it is destined to minority status. Minority= no SCOTUS nominations. We are losing people in places like Virginia, Ohio, PA, and MO. We CANNOT win the Presidency without having a shot at those states. We are getting crushed in the suburbs. We have to do better there. Newt/Santorum 08? =great conservatives BUT political suicide
Thanks. I am collecting stuff to counter the anti-Rudy people. We're going to need it.
NY Liberals are much more provincial than other Liberals.
My point wasn't to claim that Newt was any better. Neither man has a good record at home, and neither would gain my vote for President. I think America can do much better than that.
Me, too. Rudy's not to blame for Roe vs. Wade, after all. Sometime each and every one of us has to wake up to the fact that it's not right, never will be right, and it's not possible for anyone to make it right.
So simple. Everyone wakes up one day and 'gets' it.
Pass the kool-aid and my tinfoil hat, wouldja?
You can call it the Divorce Party.
I think we'll see moderating his stance on hot-button social issues. His personal baggage will certainly get play, but he's very strong on the two important conservative issues you mentioned - crime and terror.
He's also outstanding on leadership. In addition, he has another strength that hasn't gotten a lot of attention: he takes no sh** from the media. I've seen many of his press conferences vs hostile NYC media; he always slapped them down hard (ala Rumsfeld).
Rudy is certainly not my favorite on guns, abortion, and gay rights, but on the other important things I mentioned, I like him a lot.
Could you please add me to you Rudy Ping list?
TIA
Awww don't get upset - I felt like that at first on my first Rudy thread I posted. I was called Troll, Liberal DUmmie, etc., and was basically told not to post that stuff on this forum because it was a conservative forum. I just ignored them and told them that if the moderators didn't want it all they had to do was say so and I would be more than happy to stop posting. But they didn't and I'm still posting Rudy threads. Then I realized its the same people every time and it's basically a small group who just HATE RUDY That's all. I just ignore their rants and counter their hate with the good stuff about Rudy. That's all you can do with it. They are not going to change and I don't intend to waste my time trying to change their opinions or their vote.
This thread is loaded with RAT trolls dissing Rudy because they know Hitlery is toast against him.
Sure!
Republicans will be a minority party for decades if they nominate Giuliani. Republicans can't win by trying to out Democrat the Democrats.
So because he was a dem in 1975, he's no good in 2008? Thta's 33 years. Where was Reagan in 1947? That's right, he was a liberal dem, a new dealer. who supported FDR and Truman.
I'm not saying he's perfect, but the fact hta he was dem 33 years ago shouldn't be decisive. Heck, W's past didn't show any real conservatism in it at that point. He basically did some oil deals, flamed out, owned the Rangers, before he was gov of TX he had no real conservative credentials. Even as gov he wasn't that conservative.
You're other points re" guns, abortion, etc... are good, but the fact that he was a dem in 1975 and quotes from The Nation don't really cut it. Of course they're out to get him, becuase they know he'd be trouble for Hillary or Obama.
Yes, you might actually get better traction at Democratic Underground. Those people like liberals. Freepers tend to be conservatives.
Rudy can't get out of the Republican primaries. The nominee will be either McCain or Gingrich.
Wrong. This thread is loaded with liberal FReepers whose main objective is to see the GOP nominate liberal Giuliani, and march the Party of Reagan further to the left.
