President Rudy Giuliani?
Forbes ^ | 11/14/2006 | Nathan Vardi

Posted on 11/14/2006 11:02:49 AM PST by Dark Skies

Giuliani has been carefully preparing for this moment. He spent the past election season accumulating a reservoir of good will among Republicans, campaigning hard for Republican candidates from Oregon to New Hampshire. He was particularly adept at raising money for those candidates and has established himself as one of few presidential hopefuls capable of raising the $100 million or so that is seen as necessary to win the White House. At the moment, he is getting help from Anne Dickerson, who ran President Bush’s highly successful Pioneer and Ranger fundraising machine in 2004.

Giuliani has allied closely with Bush & Co. He made a high profile speech at the 2004 Republican National Convention and has gone on the road to stump with President Bush. There has also been speculation, started by the Washington Post's Kathleen Parker, that Ken Mehlman, the outgoing Republican National Committee chairman and former Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign manager, will be joining the Giuliani camp.

I guess " What profiteth a man to gain the whole world, yet lose his soul?" would be pretty well lost on the party faithful right now.

And theres this version which is my personal favorite:
"Why Richard, it profits a man nothing to give his soul for the whole world,
... but for Wales? "

I have mixed feelings about Rudy for POTUS.

Like the man, but he's really not conservative enough for me.

But he has appeal to the 'Pubbies for a whole host of reasons, and most of them make sense...

1. Rudy is the Republican party's 'nuclear' option....in that, I cannot envision a scenario whereby the Democrats win the presidency if they do not carry the State of NY. Did you want to see Hillary! vs Rudy for the NY Senate race? You may get to see it on a much bigger stage.

2. While Rudy has liberal social leanings, the answer to this problem is to elect conservatives locally for the house and senate, and partner Rudy with a social conservative...say like George Allen or Rick Santorum (but Santorum's recent abysmal showing in PA makes me wonder about this option).

3. There is no denying Rudy's 'national' appeal as a leader and as much as I hate to say this...one more terrorist attack on US soil and Rudy's ticket is 'punched' as Americans look for someone with a reputation for leading in a time of crisis.

4. Much like the Democrats won the recent election by running 'conservative' candidates, you cannot help but wonder if the Republicans believe that the winning strategy (rightly or wrongly, I don't know) might be running a more 'liberal' Republican to blur the lines...in the name of 'bipartisanship'.

I could see it...easily.

The Democrats just kicked our asses by acting more Republican than the Republicans.

YOU beat the Republicans...the border is better taken care than ever, we are spending money BECAUSE WE'RE AT WAR, it's you that's making sex a political issue...what's more important, a politician who can run this country properly, or one who's faithful to his wife?

Americans just REJECTED your notion of conservatism...they WILL NOT elect a more conservative candidate.

Count on it.

What is your source?

My source? I lived in nyc when Rudy was the prosecutor. I left when he was the Mayor but I followed his career. NYC is a tough political stage. If Rudy can make it there, he can make it in country as a whole.

Rudy's gonna go for it...and that's gonna put the entire race in a spin.

NYC is tough and Rudy is a killa!

I have been saying that since he took a public stance for the President's policies and went on the attack. His intelligence and affability are without equal. I never paid much attention to him before that.

The ads were bad up here as well. Little substance, no originality, no humor just pathetic. But there are few things dumber than Illinois Republicans. They are certainly not the ones capable of attacking our greatest enemy, the Treason Media without which the Party of Treason is nothing.

Not to me. He could be ministering to the wicked. Besides I can't help but believe a successful conservative show there could help change things. Unless it is ready to stay totally in the tank.

Someone reported here tonight that CNN has already started all Hillary all the time.... said he/she was working out in the Gym and they had both CNN and FOX on and CNN kept going to Hillary stories.

This is only the beginning, look at how shameless they were the last few weeks prior to the election.... if I was JC, Bill Bennett, etc., after CNN's shameless performance I would resign and look for work elsewhere.

"No one in that group will endorse a candidate in favor of abortion, partial-birth abortion, homosexual marriages, or amnesty for illegal immigrant invaders."

I am NOT an evangelical and Rudy is still NOT my choice for president.

I was at our county GOP meeting this evening and all the talk was of rediscovering our conservative roots. The morning after the election, Ken Mehlman said we need to return to our conservative principles.
Can someone please tell me how Guiliani or McCain fulfill that? Honestly I am stumped on this one.

B.S. -- you talk in generalities and are obviously having a Rudygasm. When you're done, look at his specific positions on the issues -- he's a flaming liberal -- PERIOD!

Your portrait of my beliefs/intentions has no bearing on reality. Only a fool believes the GOP can be totally conservatives all over the nation and in every candidate. Moving a huge nation like America rightward is like steering an ocean liner and it doesn't not move quickly in any direction. We were steering hard left for decades and only since 2000 has there been GOP control of the legislature and executive branches. And not even the Senate was under GOP control until 2002. So four years is trivial.

However, convincing the Independents and Moderates instrumental in gaining Executive control means we must find a way to counter the image of the Right which the Treason Media can still produce in millions of American's minds. Millions who simply cannot believe or are not aware of the depth of Treason and perfidy which permeates it.

Things that we take for granted as being true simply are incredible to millions. Hence, our candidates must take special care to avoid being tagged as extremists. And it is not that hard to do. Presenting candidates who are one issue (other than National Security) and who appeal only to the Right wing of the party is not going to lead to success.

There is nothing in my statements which can be construed as wanting to change the GOP into another Democrat party.

My source? I lived in nyc when Rudy was the prosecutor. I left when he was the Mayor but I followed his career.

Well, I've lived in NY since I was an embryo in my mother's womb, and can remember when he first ran for Mayor against David Dinkins. Of course Rudy was PRO LIFE then. He was defeated, and came back 4 years later as pro death um...choice. He won, and went on to make sure that homosexuals had the option of "civil unions," with all the benefits thereunto.

I've looked around a bit, since my last post to you, and saw that (as of the beginning of this last election cycle) he didn't answer the question as to whether or not he's pro homosexual "marriage." Not a good sign, especially considering his Dinkins loss induced abortion flip flop.

NYC is a tough political stage. If Rudy can make it there, he can make it in country as a whole.

The RINOs know that they won't win without the conservative base. Conservatives will never allow a Giuliani candidacy.

Rudy's gonna go for it...and that's gonna put the entire race in a spin.

And now, since I'm a bigger embryo, and have lived here the whole time, I say that Rudy can go for it all he wants to, but people are looking for a Reagan - not a NY liberal.
