PHOENIX -- Democrat Harry Mitchell's lead over Republican Rep. J.D. Hayworth increased as elections officials continued to count ballots Monday in the 5th Congressional District race.
Mitchell had a total of 88,302 votes, or 50 percent. Hayworth had 82,485 votes, or 47 percent, according to the Secretary of State's office, which continues to compile early and provisional ballots.
Libertarian Warren Severin had 5,578 votes, or 3.2 percent.
The Associated Press called the race for Mitchell last Tuesday.
Hayworth has not conceded the race. Elections officials say it will take several days to finish counting the more than 100,000 ballots that remain.
Meanwhile, Mitchell continued to organize a congressional transition team as he spent a second day at an orientation session in Washington, D.C., for newly elected Democratic members of Congress.
Arizona's 5th District includes Scottsdale, Tempe and parts of Chandler, Mesa and Phoenix.

Looks like Arizona is goin' blue, thanks to the refugees from Kalifornia...and Mexicali. The same process is almost complete in NH...thanks to refugees that natives of the state refer to as "Massholes" (meaning the state's southern neighbor).

Actually English as an official language passed overwhelmingly.
JMO, it seems that Airizona don't like xenophobic grandstanders, such as J.D. Hayowrth.
You also know that Hayworth's district is on a partisan political party basis is overwhelmingly GOP, by a 5-3 margin over the democrats.

So keep at it until you find something that does work.

This race could still go either way. It's not over yet.
BTW, Dane, I've already asked on other threads, and you have refused to answer what constitutes "trashing" the president.
Please cite some specific things Hayworth has said that "trashes" the president.

Looks like JD's toasty. From what I've seen, he may be a bit overbearing but is probably mostly right on the issues. Just another one swept away by the blue tsunami. Didn't matter that he was trying to insulate himself from Bush. Or not. People were just voting against Rs this time around.
Trouble is, when all you do is vote against something, you sometimes end up with something worse (i.e., 'Rats).

JMO, J.D. has found out about the concept of karma.

The entire theory presented by Dane and Chavez and a few others propagandizing this issue is a LIE.
Of the Republicans who lost in this election: only 6.7% of those losing were anti-immigration (in Tancredo's caucus)
34.9 % of those who lost, however, were pro-Amnesty and supported Bush's pro-Amnesty plan.
Conservative News conservativenewsnyc@yahoo.com
We have some very important information for you below. There is a ton of misinformation in the media, both by liberals (e.g. Pelosi) and neocons (e.g. Bill Kristol, Linda Chavez). They are being dishonest about the election and immigration. Every single exit poll shows that voters voted against Republicans in this election because (1) the war in Iraq (2) corruption and (3) (in some states) free trade
It had nothing to do with immigration. In fact, if the GOP had been more anti-immigration and did not have a President who cares more about amnesty than hard-working Americans, the GOP would have done better.
Of the Republicans who lost in this election: only 6.7% of those losing were anti-immigration (in Tancredo's caucus) 34.9 % of those who lost, however, were pro-Amnesty and supported Bush's pro-Amnesty plan. (These people received a grade of D or lower on their Immigration Report Cards)

Dane, your title is misleading. If you compare the "before" numbers from
Nov. 9 with the "after" numbers from the article you linked, Hayworth has gained both in absolute votes (5817 now versus 5955 before) and percentage-wise (trailing by 3.3% now versus 4.2% before).

According to the latest district results Hayworth's district on a two party registration basis, it is a 5-3 GOP advantage, but what the hey, try to defelect from Hayworth's loss by not stating the facts.
Oh, BTW, below is a link to one of J.D. Hayworth's political commercials. It points out his opponents "weaknesses" on immigration.

I simply don't understand that. Why would you leave some place that is going to the dogs and then impose the same conditions that made your original home fall apart on your new residence?
