There has been some talk that even the Dems aren't stupid. They realize many Dems won seats by moving right of the Republicans on immigration.

Dems may realize that, if they push for amnesty, they will lose in 08.

GW may find the Dem Congress not as easy as he had hoped to get his amnesty passed. He and Tony Snow's glee at having a Congress they could work with to get 'comprehensive immigration' passed may have been premature.

I don't like doom and gloom predictions. They maybe entirely accurate, but this isn't the time to roll over and quite. Demonrats have an uncanny ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Up until now, Republicans have done everything in their power to keep that from happening. If only Republicans would get out of their way and let them do what they do best, Republicans would again have control of all three branches.

The only pitbull is GW with his jaws locked on amnesty for illegals. He has latched on to that just won't let go, even when it cost his party the House and the Senate.

If he continues to push amnesty, it would easily cost the GOP the White House in 08 and make them the minority party for decades.

But he just won't let go.

Some of the most baffling e-mails received from conservative Republicans before the election were those which said that they were so disillusioned and/or disgusted with the Bush administration that they were going to vote for Democrats in order to send a message.

The RINOs voted for Socialist Democrats to make a point? Here's a novel idea, instead of voting against your own party start planning months before the elections so you can vote for a platform all of you can agree!! No wonder the RINO party is so dysfunctional! It's time for another party to fill the void.

What I find somewhat amusing is that everytime someone brought up illegal immigration before the election, we were accused of "there you go again" and hijacking threads, etc. Now, sure enough, it's the one thing that W is going to try to get done the next two years. This issue was waiting for the GOP to capitalize on and they blew it.

Even when the Pubs had control of Congress they kowtowed to every up and down vote the dems denied rather than fight. It was almost a comedy. Look whos laughing now.

Yesterday I started up an old laptop. Just out of curiosity, I looked at some of the old emails that were still on it. There were just a few, dated in the mid 2001 time-frame.

One email was in regard to a statement radio talk-show host, Rusty Humphries, made. He said that he had a memo from the RNC (2001) telling candidates to avoid any mention of illegal immigration in their campaigns.

Hmmmmm. So, the RNC has been trying to bury the topic for 6 years. And this election (2006), it came back to bite them in the rear.

I wonder if some of these people who "taught the Republicans a lesson" are beginning to understand the possible consequences of this stupidity? Republicans are out of power in the House and Senate. President Bush may sign an amnesty. Those votes will go to the Democrats. The Republican party could become a permanent minority party to the point that it may as well not exist. I guess my question is: "How stupid can some people be?"

That question should be addressed to the political leaders, not to the voters. The voters have little option -- vote for, vote against, go fishing.

It is the GOP leadership that squandered their majority position by pandering, by caving, by opening the checkbook and funding various bridges to nowhere, by allowing corruption to permeate, etc.

This one is on the GOP leadership. They have 2 years for a major course correction, or they forfeit leadership for decades.

I'm 100% with you. It's interesting how they can choose to not vote Republican as some kind of lesson, but they certainly expect us to be there for them once they decide it's time to vote again.
